Welder

I don't know if anyone has posted this type of topic before but
maybe if the welder could cut through thin metal walls or metal doors etc. or something creating a passage for the marines(kind of like the movie Aliens), maybe they could weld it shut to hold the aliens off for a bit but the aliens could break through it. i don't know how you could balance the way this works from keeping a straight line toward the alien base or the marine base. This probably sounds like a stupid idea

    Hey.

It's not that stupid. There's quite a few topics on tearing down walls or setting up barricades, so don't feel insane.

Problem is, there's already topics on tearing down walls or setting up barricades, and this post doesn't bring anything new to the table.

Contrary to popular belief, these forums actually feature a search function.

The thing is, you have to be either outright retarded or utterly insane to find it.

    I found it.

    Directions:
Go back to the NS2 forums.
Down near the bottom of the page is a link to the Lo-Fi Version - Click it.
On the Lo-Fi version of the forums, there's a search button, somewhere around the top - Click it.
On the search page (Which is already a step forward) there should be a "More Options" button - Click it.
You should be met with super search power - like <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?s=&act=Search&mode=adv&f=0" target="_blank">this</a>.

(The main point fo this post was to give myself credit for finding the search, I blame no one for not searching when the button is so well hidden...)

Since you're going to be doing the searching, this would be a great time to make an entry in the <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns/wiki/index.php/Idea_Map" target="_blank">NS2 Idea Map</a>.

@private hmm interesting...what about the search field in the top right corner just under the UW logo?
    does this make me intelligent?

you're hallucinating. everyone knows forums are unsearchable. and even if they were, they would never have good UI design.

(First off, I am sorry I derailed this topic)

The handy little search bar is useless. I remember this thread, started a while back about Physics and Onii running into walls. I think it was started by invader Zim, and I figured I would have a look because walls deformed by onos might be similar to walls deformed by welder.

Finding this topic using the advanced search was fairly easy.
(Comes up third when searching for Onos Physics - title only.)

Using the neat little search field, I still had to shift through half a page of garbage when I searched for "onos impact", the <u>exact title</u> of the thread (quotation marks included in the search string). 'onos +physics +"invader Zim"' (onos AND physics AND "invader Zim", according to the advanced search help text) yelds no results, because "invader Zim" yelds the posts in which he is quoted, not the posts he wrote. Onos Physics did a lot worse, and Zim is an illegal keyword.

This is a single case, but it illustrates my experience with the search bar quite well. Too much garbage.

agreed. it <i>IS</i> useless becouse it shows POSTs, not threads. which make you need to goto site 5 to find a 2 weeks old thread.
