I think my idea is good way, the aliens can only have 3 hives, but can place them in any of these X other locations where hives can live.
spellman, hive rooms shouldnt start infested beforeu get a hive there, they should be as clean as anyother room, maybe more damp, and others, but always --> "Alien Hives are darker, have more infestation, and has a higher density of objects and vents to allow hit-and-run" maybe make it have vents yes, nothing more diffrent, but maybe have vents closed, looking less obvious.
