More Logical Resources

<div class="IPBDescription">Other Ideas rather than the 'White Gas'</div>In the '2nd resource' forum I suggested adding more logical ideas of resources
This can probably be explained as...
You can have Metal Deposits
These will have a diffrent RT model than the basic RT's, The marines harvest it, the aliens decompose it and reconstruct it. When mined, it goes into the same resource pool as the 'White Gas'. NO DIFFRENT POOL LIKE VESPEN IN SC!!!
You can have small amount of team specific Resource Nodes, not too many so you can still have the teams stumbling over each other to get RN's
Marines can have Nanite Canisters, these can be mined like normal White Gas, with a RT, and all the resources it harvests go to the same resource pool as the white gas, NO DIFFRENT POOL LIKE VESPEN IN SC!!!
Aliens can have Some Sort of Bacteria, it can be mined like above, and pools the same, NO DIFFRENT POOL LIKE VESPEN IN SC!!!
Im repeating that so people dont get this mixed up, i really hate when people misunderstand me.

aaaaanyways. Are you suggesting a mining system similar to Savage where you go to the deposit, mine it, and carry it back to base? If you are, I really hated that mechanic. If you aren't, good job.
Fundamentally, you (may) want team specific resource locations and not just weird nanosludge coming out of the floor. Interesting. Mostly only interesting if there's team specific minable locations. And minable by buildings.
An interesting part of this is that you might have to research the tech to mine the non white gas stuff. Otherwise, the other team will ignore those locations until you start to mine it, altering the res distribution on the map. Good stuff.
wtf? cant u read the 3 sentences at end of each idea? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/confused-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="???" border="0" alt="confused-fix.gif" />

Nope

It was a secondary idea, but i do like it, to mine it, it's as simple as putting the same RT on the node, but when the rt is placed, it changes models to not a Gas Resource Tower, but a Nano Canister Resource Tower
Not nanosludge, they in canisters =)

Maybe? That might make sense if i suggested mining metal gives more res, but i didnt =P I think team specific should be researched though. Hive 3 is required for aliens, protolab for marines, these resources are good for late game, cause that's when u can get them =)
So for example, if I created a normal resource node with resource type 'metal', for every point collected by that resource node, it pours itself into its own resource type called 'metal'. If the mapper creates more than one resource node with this resource type, that too will pour into the same pool called 'metal'. If you declared the cost of an onos to be 60 'gas' and '10' metal, then the game will prevent that player from evolving into an onos even with 60 'gas' if the onos didn't also have 10 metal for example.
Then they could have fun with the node models, keeping the gas model but expanding to add others and leaving it up to the mapper to determine what it counts for. If you have a decent mapper, the mapper will be able to control balance of the game within the map to a fairly accurate degree, leaving only 'who controls the nodes' as a variable for the game to determine.
A much better option for a second node is what I believe is in line with Ryknow's proposal (and dude, you are NOT clear in some of your writings; 'NO DIFFRENT POOL LIKE VESPEN IN SC!' could mean 'no different from vespen' OR 'not a different pool like how vespen gas is a different pool').
What I'm saying is that the current 'white gas' res nodes offer 1 res ever 4 seconds; perhaps there could be another type of res node that offers ten res every 30 seconds, effectively giving 33% more res overall, but at much slower intervals. Could cost more res to plant, be higher HP, be more sparse throughout the map, whatever.
But it would offer a second resource income type, while maintaining the simplicity of only one actual resource spending model.
Well, it's pretty likely there will be a second resource type. I remember it being in the commander mockup a few *casts ago. It does add to the strategy side. I just hope it will lean towards the "nice to have" side more than the "need to have" side in terms of playing with hard counters.

Metal gives 1 res per 4 seconds, and the original white gas gives 1 res per 4 secs, i just wanted another model to make it more logical, but, iv been swayed by some of these other ideas sooooo, ehh....
