<div class="IPBDescription">Bit Torrent and Alltel</div>Lately I have been downloading alot of TV series that I no longer get on DirectTV. Almost a month now and nothing like this has happened before. Yesterday however I downloaded a movie. As we all know many torrent downloaders require you to upload as well.
Today I got a call from my service provider and plainly said that if I can continue downloading movies, but if I am caught distributing any my account will be cancelled. Because that is illegal.
The computer doing the downloading is a newly furnished Windows Vista, most definately the first legitimate copy of windows I have ever ran. Up until now I have been running pirated versions of the operating system.
The question is as follows, is my legitimate copy of windows my downfall? Or is it this torrent downloader? Or has my isp had it's balls thrown into a wringer and is getting pressured by the film industry stop piracy?

It is financially beneficial to them to keep you as a customer, they just are required to warn/threaten you or else they would be in trouble.
Don't worry about it, just stay away from popular torrents because those are the ones that get checked up on.
So yes, lay off torrents a while, and you should be just fine. You may consider getting peerguardian 2 and a good firewall, that should eliminate most of their bull######. I recently got a letter myself, first time in 7 years of juarezing. Just won the fascist lottery is all, you'll be fine if you do as I say. Remember, do NOT CONTACT THEM or ADMIT ANYTHING.
edit:
Before the whiney anti-piracy babies say anything:
Maybe if companies had acceptable DRM, EULA's, and released Demos for things we wouldn't have to resort to piracy. I am the type of downloader that acquires things that I can't "try-before-I-buy" If anyone saw my games collection you'd see I pay for what deserves pay, so in short, preach your redundant and irrelevant ego thumping agenda elsewhere.
How do I encrypt my bittorrent stream?

Tried Gamefly and lost about four games in the mail. They closed my account.
It was a phone call, communist, sadly I wasn't the one there to answer the phone so something stupid was undoubtably said to the ISP.
Usenet.
It costs, but it's very much worth it.
Keep in mind. YOU WILL NEVER BE 100% SAFE WITH TORRENTS WHEN YOU ACCESS COPYRIGHT MATERIAL. Until the US stops becomming an internet police state, nothing is safe, with the exception of private sites, usenet, maybe irc.
No more HBO series for me ^.-
Thanks for the info though guys.
Private trackers ftw!

You ban about 3/4 of the Interweb with Peerguardian.

Doubt you'll be safe long.
Not sure how Denmark stands on this.
