I didn't see this thread in march, but I just saw it now and was going to ask whether your pc had multiple sets of audio ports...
it's funny how hard it is to get simple things like sound to work properly, while more complicated things like video cards usually work fine right out of the box... my wife can't get her microphone to work properly with Vista such that she can hear it while she talks...
Werrrllll... on my old computer, the front port would get insanely dust-filled if it was left open, so I was reluctant to repeat that experience. Of course, my new computer is kept up on the table along with the monitor, so it probably won't be an issue this time around. Probably.
