At first I'd check that your firewall allows everything steam, hl and ns related go through.

I have this problem as well. It has happened to me on both XP and Vista 32 bit. It actually happens every several months and stays that way until it fixes itself which is rather annoying. I've tried deleting 'clientregistry.blob' but that doesn't work.

This has happened to me at least five times that I can remember, probably more.

Did you try starting up NS and then looking for servers while in game?

    Try adding 174.132.243.146:27015 to your favorites <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

@Tincan, I have tried connecting manually but all it does is retry multiple times then disconnects after 3 or so consecutive failed attempts.

@Fraxinus, I'm guessing Bacillus is right and it is related to firewall. Weird if it fixes itself sometimes - are you on a network?
