"Liutenant Lewis and the other 3 marines with him, Corporal Sanchez, Private Brody and Private Hank, pounded down the corridor. Behind them, there was a constant clicking on the floor as a pack of skulks pursued them. The lead skulk suddenly leaped forward, hitting a marine in the back. Latching on, it ripped open his armor and burrowed into his back, then started eating his heart. The marine, screaming in agony, stopped as the other skulks latched on and joined the first. Amazingly, he remained standing for about another second, and then toppled over. He quickly vanished under the skulks. This gave Lewis and the remaining 3 marines enough time to reach the door. Turning around, they noticed the skulks leaving the body-if you could still call it a body-and starting to run towards the door, dripping blood and gore. Suddenly, they stopped. The ground began to tremble. "What the living fu-" The speaker never got the rest out, as a tentacle whipped around the corner, speeding through the door faster than the eye could blink, and grabbed him around the neck. Pulling with terrifying speed, he was dragged along the corridor towards the skulks, which were scattering into cracks or vents. The ground infront of the door he was being dragged towards erupted, and a gigantic plant head dripping with saliva shot up. The mouth opened, revealing teeth, and the marine, cursing and swearing, pulled a T-4 grenade and tossed it down the creatures throat. He got a first-hand look at the explosion as it whipped him into its mouth shortly after and swallowed him alive. The alien plant was about to grab Lewis and Sanchez, but then the T-4 grenade went off and its head grew bigger and bigger before finally blowing up. The skulks were all gone. Looking at the plant, Lewis realized that it was Kharra. The bacterial infestation covered it. "A new alien? ****ing great, just what we needed.." Muttered Lewis. Reaching for his com badge, he activated it and said "This is Delta Squad. Hank and Brodie are down. Hank went down under a pack of Skulks and Brodie was eaten by some kind of new alien, but he got it with a T-4 grenade. Unfortunately, the shock wave triggered the door and we can't get out. We sure as hell aren't going the way that plant thing came from."
"A new kind of Kharra? Great.. Okay, I'll spawn in a PG and you guys can get back here. Bring Hank if there's any left of him, and remember to bring your Helmet Cameras memory cards with you-I want to see that thing for myself." The communication ended there. Suddenly, from the remains of the plant creature, there was a noise. Both Lewis and Sanchez pulled grenades out of their belts, ready to finish it off. However, It wasn't a alien-It was Brodie. He was missing his left arm, and half his face was gone, but he was alive. The PG appeared, and Lewis and Sanchez dragged him through it quickly. "Sorry about-hey, what the hell? I thought you said Brodie was dead!"
"No, we thought he was, but as it turns out, he's still here. Only just, though. We'll need to get him into the Infirmary."
The marines aboard the S.S Pioneer had one of the best known Infirmary staff in the entire TSA. Soon, Brodie's face was almost healed and his arm had been replaced by a Prosthetic one. Brodie was wheeled away to the hospital bay, and Sanchez and Lewis were told to report to Commander Layven.
"So...you saw a new kind of Kharra?" asked the commander.
"Yes, we did. We both got it on Camera."
"Okay, lets see those chips."
Lewis handed over his chip to the officer first. Suddenly the doors slid open and a wounded marine staggered into the room. He was missing most of his face and the top of his head was almost coming off, but somehow, he managed to gasp out "Some...thing...new...not..Kharra...you've got to...stop it.."
Then he toppled to the floor and died in a ever-widening pool of his own blood.
"What the hell could have done that?!"
"I don't know, but we have to get the hell out there and find out."
They came out the doors and saw a scene from a nightmare. The marine who had been guarding the Commanders office was hanging from the Ceiling, dripping a stream of blood, held by something invisible. They saw his helmet come off and be crushed and devoured. Then a bright red line appeared circling his head. He was screaming and writhing in agony, and the top of his head came off. His brain was ripped out and eaten. A loud burp of relish was heard and he was dropped to the floor. Then whatever it was turned towards Lewis and Sanchez, and Commander Layven. "What the ****!?" They fired their weapons at it. It screeched, an unearthly sound, and the floor began to tremble. The bodies of the slain marines that were lining the corrider were lifted up by unseen hands and crushed together to form a dripping ball of flesh and metal. The ball was thrown and the three marines, who had retreated into the office and locked the doors.
"We should be safe in here."
Suddenly, the ball crashed through the door. Grabbing Lewis and Sanchez, the commander raced towards the door at the rear of the office. "Keep running!!"
The door slid open, revealing a escape pod. Throwing Lewis and Sanchez into it, the commander dived through the doors just as they shut and hit the emergency "Immediate Evacuation" button.
The panel that showed the ships interior came on. Most of the staff had been slaughtered or taken by some invisible force. As they watched, two marines ran down a corridor, pursued by a pack of skulks.
"######s-so it was kharra."
The marines hit a dead end and turned around, firing with their HMGs at the skulks. Something was different about the skulks. They seemed smaller and spikier. They soon found out just what. The lead skulk leaped forward onto one of the marines. It burrowed into his chest in a goute of blood. He gave one scream-just one. But for some reason, he still stood. He was jerking violently. The other skulk-creatures were already dead. The remaining marine chuckled and asked his companion what was wrong. His companion stopped jerking, and his face contorted wierdly. In a gout of blood, two tentacles came out of his right arm, forcing aside his wrist and breaking it. The tentacles whipped around with a life of their own. His eyes rolled up in his head, but he was still standing. His comrade was backing off, and on the screen, the three marines could see his teeth lengthening and sharpening. He turned around and jumped at his comrade. Fortunately, he was ready, and he shot the creature that had once been a marine in the chest. The creature that had taken over the other marines body died, and so did the reanimated marine. The marine, sighing with relief, punched in the code to open the door to the eject pod. He walked inside and punched the evacuation button. The pod ejected and zoomed past the viewport. "There's one marine who wont be dying today." The commander sighed with relief. "Still, what ARE these things? We know they're Kharra."
"They must be a new mutation."
The pod was still circling the ship. The monitor was showing a different corridor now. On this corridor, another man-not a marine, for he wore the suit of a crewman-was running down the corridor. A extremely long red blip was running along on both sides of him. He crossed between two vents. Tentacles burst out and wrapped around his legs. He was torn in two, leaving a mess of guts, organs and blood, and dragged into the vents.
A retching sound was heard as Sanchez vomited into the trash port. Layven turned off the monitor and shook his head. "What the hell was...nevermind. All I'm concerned about is getting as far away from that ship as possible. Arm the laser missiles. I know my ship better than anyone...aim for the rear section. Take out the fuel engine and destroy those things!!"
As the pod sailed away, the missiles launched, and the S.S Pioneer shuddered. It took the hit.
Suddenly, Lewis sat down, all the blood draining from his face.
"Wheres Brodie?"
