Demigod

<div class="IPBDescription">Big building guys punching other buildings</div>Anyone played this yet? Word 'round the campfire is there's a demo en route, methinks I'll pick it up.

I never really got into DOTA, I was shoulder-deep in WoW when my friends started playing it. The comparison is obvious but I wonder if GPG have made the concept any better.

I had a lot of fun the one time I played DOTA, but then it was at a LAN party sort of thing, so we could all yell at eachother for being ######n hakrs, and I just don't think it'd be the same online.
But I still want to try Demigod, so I'm definitely getting the demo if there ever is one.

I had little fun the one time I played DotA, we were six guys and we set up a five vs. one match and the one guy still won.

I have it. It is a fun game - when it works.. There has been some ridic netcode issues (though, Stardock/GPG tends to blame it on overprotective routers in order to cover their ass from their own Gamer's Bill of Rights... but yeah).. Anyway, it has been patched up, and is more stable now. Not sure it is perfect yet - when I tried earlier today, the game locked up in the lobby after everyone had ready'd up.

Last I read a couple of days ago, they promised a patch that should solve netcode issues for good sometime next week - not sure if that is the patch that I just updated with this morning.

So erh... I'd suggest you wait for a demo, just to see if you suffer from those netcode issues. the game locking up might be something on my end, perhaps XP64bit. Unless of course you LAN a lot with some mates, then you might consider just picking it up, as that should work just fine.

Edit: I'll try out the game sometime tonight, and update this post (or make a new one), with my experience with it.

I watched some gameplay videos a while back. I can't really say I liked what I saw. The gameplay style just didn't seem too interesting to me. I'm not saying it looked BAD, but just something I propably wouldn't like.

I'll still propably try the demo if there is one.

    I felt a little same.

At least the maps were a disappointment to me. No cramped ambush spots or dramatic escapes in the few gameplay videos I saw, just relatively open battles with a few player controlled heroed getting involved. It's probably a bit different with bigger playercounts and organised teamwork, but the first glance failed to transmit any feelings or excited atmosphere from the game.

In all honesty though, show someone a 5 minute video clip of NS1 and they'd likely think it was nothing special (not a critism of the graphics or art- but you can't appreciate the depth from a short vid).

Those who bought Demigod online before May 10th get a 50% discount voucher for someone else. If I can get my hands on one- <3 DHP- I'll be buying it at £13. DotA passed me by, hopefully there's enough new players like myself to help ease me in.

I find the game's art insanely boring.

True, but I've still seen far better gameplay trailers. I can't recall seeing a single real highlight on the 15+ minutes of gameplay. Everything was just 'meh'. Hopefully the demo gets released soon.

I'm more concerned on the connectivity issues. What is the approximate percentage of connecting and playing a full game successfully?

You could always play with me until you get the hang of it, like I said at the time.... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> I didn't start until 6.48, and I know it pretty much inside out now.

On Demigod, it does seem to be 'Retail game copies DotA but simpler' which seems a little backwards to pay for aside from for a prettier graphics engine.
