Parasite

<div class="IPBDescription">Aiming?</div> When you are trying to parasite someone as a Skulk, is there any sort of compensation for trajectory? I usually try to put the crosshairs right on the marine's chest, but it just doesn't seem to work. After a couple tries they usually spot me then I just unload wildly and then take off. I have gotten it to work occasionally, but not before I saturate the guy with them. Since I can't see the actual parasite fly, I was wondering if I should aim above the marine, or do you actually need a few to get it to stick?

It is a useful tool when I get it to work. I'd just prefer if I could be a little stealthier about it.

I'll sometimes play early-game tagging from just outside the marine start. When a marine runs out of their main, I'll tag 'em so one of my comrades can track him if/when he gets too close.

Every time I tag a marine, I'll just center him on my crosshairs and fire. Even if he runs out of my view as soon as I shoot, he still gets tagged.

If you can't tag him with the first try, just leave him alone. A marine is less likely to notice one 'splat' sound than they would 5 or 6, and in an intense game, they're not as likely to notice the "parasite detected" message on their screen. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Thanks for the help. This also made me think that if my aiming is correct, maybe I am actually tagging them. If you can't hear the "tack" sound clear, what other ways are there to tell you got it? Does it take a second to show up on hive sight? Or do I need back around the the corner more to check? Maybe I've just been too hasty...

Exactly what I meant by being stealthier. I definitely lost the element of surprise on the few successful tags I've gotten. But, being a newbie, I really want to try all the abilities out and learn the most constructive uses of each. Even on my first game I managed to get behind the CC using silence and cloaking as a Skulk. None of the marines had a clue and I just sit there cloaked trying to figure out what to do next since chomping on the CC at the wrong time would've given my hiding place away. My next step is to master Xenocide timing to use it effectively.

It's not "trajectory", it's that a Parasite has a set range. If a marine is too far away It won't hit. Note also, sometimes during lag you'll either miss due to ping or hit the marine and won't know it. Parasite shoots straight out forward.

It's an insta-hit weapon, meaning you aim directly for them. No need to lead the target.

There is a 'tack' noise when you hit. And you do have to back around the corner first.

I like parasiting buildings for newbies, just so they know where the base is.

Thanks for the information Gibby and Moleculor. I think I got it now. All the aforementioned issues had probably come into play at one time or another. Now that I know for sure it's instant and straight at the crosshairs, I should be able to trouble-shoot in game rather than after the fact. I'd bet most of my misses were from being out of range.

    Thanks again everyone!

It might just be me, but I think the Parasite has a shorter range then most think. It's not long enough to reach most longer halls.

    Sulk+cloaking= Master spy!

Wait on the ceiling for a marine to walk by, parasite him, and then watch as your team ambushes the poor **obscenity**.
