getting stuck on ledges

Once common annoyance is to get stuck on a little ledge sticking out of a wall or ceiling. It would be nice if a bit of work could be done to make the player automatically go around small ledges rather than sticking to them and stopping all momentum. This is true for all character classes, but is especially noticeable for leaping skulks.

I think i understand what you saying, that you want the game to somehow move you around small obstructions that stick off walls and get in your way, but isn't this something that the map makers need to fix? The ledges are only there because they haven't been removed or were overlooked/forgotten about when the map was made... well that was my belief.

It would already be a great help to skulk navigation, if the player movement would treat those ledges on walls and ceilings like steps on the floor.

M00_cow: Yes. For example, if you are walking down a hall (in real life) and your shoulder hits a post, it pushes your shoulder back and rotates your body a bit, but you keep moving forward. I'm not expecting NS2 to do all of that, but I would like the characters to more naturally negotiate around small obstructions like that.

As for this being the mapper's problem, I disagree. I think a mapper should have the ability to design it to look like they want without having to worry so much about players getting stuck all over the place. Having the game engine do the work frees both the mapper and the player to play as they want without worrying about stupid ledges.

A mapper who puts a lot of time into a map will include invisible clipping brushes that "soften" the edges of extruding features.

I vote to keep it in the mapper's hands, because I have a feeling that making the engine handle this kind of thing may negatively affect player movement.

In HL2 you can add "playerclip" to prevent but i don't know if the UWE Team use that in their Engine.
