Hi there,
I stumbled upon NS2 a while back and today, I stumbled upon it again. I thouhgt I'd regsiter and join the community here. I am about to pre-order it now. You had me sold on your teaser, just so you know.
I would like to know if users will be able to create their own maps, host servers, make skins, scripts, and even mod the game to an extent where they can add new models, new weapons etc like with current Source games. Now, I know you decided to write your own engine and from what I've seen so far, that was a step in the right direction.
I am part of various communities who participate in creating custom content for the games they love and it really keeps the game alive for years after release. Will an SDK be shipped with release (or soon afterwards)?
Thank you for making a game that looks to as awesome as I had hoped for it to be. I really hope you will ship an SDK with the game, I think it deserves it.

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->"With modding, there would have been no Natural Selection, so we're dedicated to providing the community with the most powerful and easy-to-use modding tools possible. We're shipping all our content tools we are using to build Natural Selection 2 along with the game. This includes our level editor, model viewer, cinematic editor. Furthermore, because we are writing 100% of our game in Lua script, you'll be able to add your own weapons, gameplay modes and entirely new games with relative ease. Everyone that buys the game will get the same tools we used to build the game. We're even shipping our commercial script debugger and our own gameplay code with the game. So we expect NS2 to be the most modded game ever!."<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
In other words. Like homicide said: yes <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
To elaborate:
Hell yes.
All of what you will need to do all of those things will be shipping with the game.
From the NS2 page:
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->WYSIWYG graphical tools and powerful scripting allow you to create new weapons, scenarios or entirely new games. You'll get all our tools and Lua source code we're using to build NS2. Ongoing automatic updates keep the game fresh by adding new maps, weapons and abilities.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
p.s. anyone know how to change the thread display type from threaded to linear on these forums, because i can't find the option nowhere and its driving me nut's.
Thanks a lot for your reply! I'll be reading up on the site and filling my brain with as much info as I can handle!

Forums are borked atm, so you can't do it (normally it would be from the options menu on the top right)
However! a bit of hackery showed me you can append "&mode=<view type>" to change your view type (I got suck in threaded b/c I followed a link from google). the type you want might be flat, so it would be:
<a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=106317&mode=flat" target="_blank">http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index....7&mode=flat</a> (this being the thread I reported the issue in <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />)

Quite a few of the blog posts were about the tools, you should look through the history there for them, they shouldn't be hard to find. I'd link you to them directly, but then I'd be denying you the pleasure of reading the rest of the posts as well, which are all very interesting.
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->its kinda worrying that the game could end up saturated with custom game-modes with LUA scripting making it so easy to change things.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
The easiest way to deal with that is server tags, like in TF2, that way you can search for popular mod servers or vanilla, which ever your favorite flavor. Something like this would be necessary though, since it's really annoying to join a server you think is base and end up playing some bizarre version of mario kart.
