Constant Updates

<div class="IPBDescription">Updates that have worked in other games</div>Hello All

One thing i saw very successful in cs when it was in the beta stage (5.0, 6.0, 6.0, 7.0), was constant updates. The moment the new update came out (even if it was as small as a change in the look of a gun) people would talk about it, and try it out to see what the new change does for them.

Lot of updates are a good idea. Games die, when the updates stop.

Example. ns 3.2 came out, and people played and even had a few comps going. If you release ns4.0 then people will want to see what the new change is.

Constant updates keep people feeling that the game is ever evolving and they will always want to see the new changes. Dont stop updating once the game is released. People love small additions.

Oh, I strongly doubt that they're gonna plop out NS2 and stop.

Patches will come out for balance. I'm sure they will be struck with inspiration for new gameplay elements.

I strongly doubt NS2 will be static.

However, releasing updates for updates' sake is a horrible idea. Each release needs to be incrementally better than the last. No "oops, we didn't test that as thoroughly as we thought" without an immediate quick-fix (see Valve's bloopers in the recent giant update). Empires rushed out a few patches and it's turned dedicated players AWAY from the game due to the poor balance and in general low quality. Sure they added new stuff and tried to fix issues, but they didn't advance the game.

NS 3.0 Final had also some massive balance issues. Combined with the site downtime, I think it partitially caused quite a few oldschool players to quit for a while at least.
