Just built up new pc including core i7 920, radeon hd 4890OC 1gb, 6gb 1600Mhz ddr3, Asus p6t motherboard. When installed ns and started to play first time fps was around 300-400 and couple of days later same problems came up what i had with my older pc, minor fps drop and sound looping. Now my fps is around 30-140. Sounds started to loop when i changed opengl to d3d. This is exactly same problem as i had earlier :S Would be a shame to get it work by tweaking every time i play ns so.. what to do? ow and have win xp pro.

    Don't use D3D.

OpenGL is far better for half-life era games.

Did you install anything that would have heavy access of resources in the time between the high fps an problems beginning?

My reason for asking is if the problem persisted over two different systems, then it may be some software that is causing the problem.

I am using opengl. Uninstalled Asus smartdoctor and got my fps back, problem solved :)
