Game freezes when joining a server

Hello Natural Selection Community, I got a problem.
Everytime I try to join any NS server my game freezes. Even when I create my own server! It's working fine when I use Software rendering, but unfortunately it's not supported. I'm using a ATI Radeon HD 4350. I already tried to get a omega driver, but I'm using Vista and there's no driver for this combination. It was working fine two days ago, but yesterday it somehow messed up. Do you have any ideas? I tried everything which came in my mind.
Thanks in advance.

Honestly, what did you do yesterday?

It could be any number of things, and if we knew what you did yesterday, we might have a better chance at guessing what is wrong.

    Baring that, the standards are:

    1) Do other games work? Other HL mods? HL?
    2) Reinstall HL/NS
    3) Reinstall drivers (all of them, any could cause a crash)
    4) Be more descriptive with "freezes": Can you alt tab out? Sound loops? Can hear things going on in the back ground?

Yesterday, I wanted to fix that my commander menu was black and tried to change the rendering from OpenGL to D3D, but it didn't work so I changed it back. After that the problem came.

    1) Do other games work? Other HL mods? HL?

    Yes, they do.

    2) Reinstall HL/NS

I reinstalled NS already, gonna try that with HL now..

    3) Reinstall drivers (all of them, any could cause a crash)

    Already tried that.

    4) Be more descriptive with "freezes": Can you alt tab out? Sound loops? Can hear things going on in the back ground?

Wih freeze I mean it's not responding anymore. Sure I can Alt-Tab out. There are no sound loops because it freezes while I'm joining... But it's not telling me that it's not responding, it's like if your left click into an empty space, nothing happens. I also waited a half hour, hoping it just needs time.. But didn't work.

I think that OpenGL or D3D may be the problem... But my graphics card supports OpenGL. =/

    Ich.

    well let us see:

    1) your original problem is solved via cl_gammaramp 0
    2) HL does NOT play well with D3D (NS is particularly bad). You also were never in software mode, as NS will refuse to launch with that...

Unfortunately, I have no answers for you. The only thing I can suggest is making sure:
    1) When you reinstall NS/HL make sure yuo fully uninstall and remove all traces of the games first.
    2) Try doing a full malware scan.
    3) Try shutting down everything that is running in the background.

It somehow fixed itself... I don't know how and when actually, but it did. If I find out how, I'll post it if any other player has this problem. But I won't mess it up again. =/
