<div class="IPBDescription">Viewing Demos</div>Having an annoying problem here that I can't seem to solve...

Problem: Whenever typing "playdemo <demo name>" the demo will load up and then completely freeze my NS. When I close NS, my gamma on my computer is significantly higher then what it was. If I repeat this process, the brightness goes even higher. I usually have to just restart my computer to set it back.

I have tried using viewdemo, which does work, but the voice is all scrambled and not understandable (The voice is what I need to hear).

I also have used DemoFreak which works for some of the demos but not all (And yes, I can hear voice when using this).

Pretty much looking for any type of solution here, whether it be fixing the freeze problem or somehow allowing voice in viewdemo.

Edit: Whenever I try using "playdemo" it always freezes before all the gamma/light settings are loaded (The screen is always pretty dark). So maybe NS is having trouble loading those settings, causing it to crash and if so, some command lines have to be changed... But I'm clueless...

I am guessing the voice problem is because you are using the wrong voice codec on your own "listen" type server when trying to view the demo.
The bullet proof way to fix it quick is to join the same server the demo was recorded on and your system will switch (if needed) to that voice codec. Then you can disconnect (not quit), and drop down your console and try viewdemo again. The voices should be right.

If the server is not available to connect to, the odds are it was running the codec voice_speex. You could add this to your listenserver.cfg file:
    sv_voicecodec voice_speex
    sv_voicequality 5
Then start a listen_server and once you have joined your own server you can pull down the console and try viewdemo. You may need to play with the sv_voicequality, 5 is the highest and most likely correct.

Funny, viewdemo doesn't work right for me unless I use playdemo first. When I do use playdemo it usually takes like 2 mins to fully load up in memory before it works right without choppy video/voice. Once it is loaded up I can use viewdemo. viewdemo is better because you have access to controls like rewind and stuff.

Thanks a lot. The first way worked perfectly and I can hear the voices fine now...

In the ns directory, there is a .exe called resetgamma, running that should fix the high gamma in windows after a ns crash.
