Something tells me I´ll be playing NS2 for 10 years or more
In all seriousness I see the function of it, and like the elegance of the electrodes falling off on faster moving targets. Wouldn't have expected it though.
R.I.P. Pistol.
lol
Sounds interesting. I look forward to trying it out.
I just TASED you. In the ASS!
I hope the welder doesn´t do meele damage
No, it won't.

I hope it does so you can counter the gorgerushes with welderrushes! :D
+ You don´t have to switch weapons and get to electrify ppl *thumbs up*
Does this mean the futur comm in NS2 won't drop any ammos or medpacks ? If so, do you plan on other things to entertain the comm or at least make it a fun/cool/skillfull class to play ?
That was not insinuated, at all.
for instance: someone manages to hit a lerk with transponders (suposedly hard thing to do), so everyone near can electrify it at the same time before it falls off.
That was just the explanaition for why they added the knife to NS1.
Hey troll, explain why you don´t like it
ALSO
How is the pistol an uber weapon!?
Ever since the cap was added to the RoF, the pistol is a very balanced, yet key weapon in NS.
Although I think half of what you wrote on your update page was complete bull. I don't want to have a dig, as it's too early to say how the taser will affect gameplay.
But in all honesty, I think you are making a risky (and more likely bad) move.
Yet we will see. GL
p.s. It's nice to see you're thinking about the game in so much depth, but I feel you need actual PLAYER experience on your side. People who actually play games on a common basis.
Sweet! Now I can have my own pet Skulk! I really like the idea of this taser.
But one question...if a Lerk gets hit by the taser, does it cause them to fall out of the sky and makes them inable to fly for a certain amount of time?
Couple of concerns though,
i) won't making the electricity / sparks / chain look good take a lot of effort compared to a pistol / knife, so would you really be saving there?
ii) I'm not sure I see a way of animating the melee mode in any way that doesn't look pansy-ish. I mean if you went to poke something with that gripping the handle / hilt, if they were moving with any speed or power it'd get knocked out of your hand surely? Just worried that it'll lack the brutality that melee weapon animations should have a least some degree of.
iii) I don't think that firing darts into multi-structures and waiting till they go splat will really be any less monotonous than knifing it, unless it's quicker... but if it's quicker how are you planning to balance it? Presumably you wouldn't be able to do this - even with extreme skills - to OCs or they'd be kinda pointless.
that said if stay the standard secondary attack of lmg was to smack them in the face with a rifle butt, I wouldn't mind if tazering them came a across less aggressively.
Also the concept is uber sexy looking.
-- Edit -- : Perhaps though, it should have a bar over the top of the handle that you have to slide your handle through to get a grip on it, then it wouldn't feel like it'd get knocked out of your hand so easy... plus it could make for some cool switching animations as you deftly slide you hand through the hole and then shift the weight of the tazer to get a good grip on the main handle.
In all seriousness I see the function of it, and like the elegance of the electrodes falling off on faster moving targets. Wouldn't have expected it though.

My sentiments exactly. Great idea once I read the post, and solid thinking behind its purpose, but this is something that you don't typically see. It's usually just get a pistol and a melee (knife or rifle bash) and you're golden in a FPS today.
I love things that actually make sense, a perfect balance between form and function.
~~Sickle~~
Aye, it's a great idea, though I will miss the ability for long range accurate weapons to nail that tiny little bit of skulk I can see around a corner. Spraying down a hallway with the LMG just doesn't always do the trick even as accurate as it is. I suspect the taser will also be range limited to something fairly close.
I heartily agree on the tutorial bit. Granted this game will have a very different feel since there wont be a random influx of people who just downloaded the game for free and don't know how to play, but it still needs to be said Ballmer style:
<b>Tutorials, tutorials, tutorials!</b>
Make it quick, make it interactive, make it fun, make sure it teaches everything.
I hope that was a misunderstanding from me, really..
Though I do feel it could look a little more military, maybe an actual trigger + trigger guard would help the illusion.
So about destroying buildings, I would like it so that shooting at it makes so much more dammage to it (even if the players think it is "wasting ammo") so you don't need/want to melee it at all. Mayby make it so that that the nearer you are shooting at it the more dammage it makes (to some extend), but some how making it so that people don't just stick their gun to the building thus effectivly toutching it, which marines should not want to do. Some splash dammage (aka "alien acid blood") or you get your vizor full of blood and don't see anyting (or atleas it impairs your vision), or some thing similar.
Maybe burning the buildings or some thing, or some sort of a equipment thats single purpose is to destroy buildings quickly (but not too quickly to upset the balance of the game, and still allow aliens to respond). For most parts this seems to try to "solve" the problem of a single marine (or a group) seeing an alone resourse tower and beginning to knife it, this does need some kind of a solution, just personaly don't think a "tazer" as for destroying buildings is such a great idea.
But as a stand-alone-weapon I kinda like the tazer as an alternative to pistol (but that would just mean more work so scratch that, atleast this early in the game).
Personaly I like that pistol, just make it not so superior as you made it in ns1, it is a back up weapon and that its purpose should be to whip it out if you dont have time to reload or are out of ammo for your primary weapon. And no knife, you get the melee bashing with your primary weapon already.
PS. Sorry for typos - my written english isn't that great.
