    They haven't been released yet.

The tools will be released before the game is officially out, but the tools are not out yet so as for immediate satisfaction... no you can't get that yet.

Hey guys, I was going to make my own thread but this one is close enough.

I want to pre-order this game, but what the ######.. Every single review I read the dev team gives half baked answers, or flat out "maybe's" about whether or not Valve will help them put it on Steam.

If I'm going to drop 40 bucks on you guys, I could honesty care less about the armor. I just want some answers, like when is the alpha approximately, when is the beta, will we get the tools first, ect.

I understand it's finished when it's finished, but without even an approximation I'm not going to give you guys my money.

We appreciate that you're considering preordering; the preorders are extremely helpful to us, but we understand it's not for everyone.

We haven't given firm dates or confirmed that the game will be available in the Steam store because we don't want to commit to something that we can't deliver. We've talked to Valve about putting NS2 in the Steam store and we have no reason to believe that won't happen, but we haven't gotten a confirmation from Valve. I can confirm that NS2 will support Steamworks (i.e. the Steam service), which I imagine is what you're really interested in.

So for clarification, it will work with (or even require) the Steam client to play and will be added to the "My Games" list where you'll have access to your Friends List, etc. What they're not sure of is whether you'll be able to buy directly from Steam in the Steam store, as oppose to downloading the game from various Mirrors and installing it into Steam.

More specifically, it's unknown whether pre-ordered CD keys and downloading from an external mirror will be able to be registered under Steam and thus integrated into Steam. However, it will have the code to run with Steamworks and thus will support being able to be bought through Steam. I believe Steam has said that they could sell NS2 through Steam as well.

On the subject of pre-order keys, my mail host decided to clear out "old" email and deleted, among other things, my pre-order email from my account. I've tried requesting a re-send from the site but never received anything. I realise the UWE guys are rather busy at the moment but if someone could send me my key again it'd be much appreciated!

If you are having site issues with pre-order key... "charlie@unknownworlds.com" is what you'll need to send an e-mail to.
How long ago did you request it though? I've noticed e-mail notifications are a little delayed at times.

If you have steam, boot up the SDK Tools and play about in Hammer Editor just to get a feel for the concept of mapping, look up video tutorials for making simple rooms etc. and just put some simple designs together and test it out.

As for models? I haven't even touched that yet...!!!

Max, to your knowledge has anyone else utilized the steam framework in the manner ns2 is shaping to use it? Is this new for valve too? BTW, it sounds great- no concern here.

All sorted, big thanks to Charlie for getting back to me so quickly with my key!

For anyone else having trouble recovering their key using the automated system on the main NS2 web site, there's a problem with their mail server which they're working on and should have fixed soon.
