9 Is the best! and the most beautiful of them all ^^

I agree with the people that have said it depends on the actual functionality of the gun. 9 and 3 are better for the more powerful kind of weapon, but the smaller ones work better if the pistol is going to be a lesser weapon to what the 'rines had in NS1. Wouldn't make too much sense to get number 9 which, at a guess, looks bigger than the old one, and it be less accurate or powerful.

As long as it's not no2 (because that's a stupid design and noone would ever design a pistol like that) I think it'll be fine. All the rest of them are awesome in their own ways.

That would be in the spirit of NS1. Remember how the marine hand grenade looks pathetic and tiny (and appears to weigh 0.40 oz, but the marine can only throw it 10ft, and the blast is harmless to all marines and mostly all aliens and structures until you pump in a few hundred magazines of lmg). And then the big question... why do marines only carry 2 of those worthless lightweight firecrackers... why not 50+... i mean they weigh nothing... maybe it's because they also do nothing xD

    #3 with the long barrel.

Looks big and powerful, but still sleek. Where #9 just looks big and would be innacurrate.

Cool, ugly ass, revolver that automatically brings the hammer back down for you after you shoot :P (Note barrel alignment with bottom of the cylinder).

Is that one of that test weapons that have almost no recoil because the bullet is shot from the center of the gun?

also, i assume that there is an electrical system (<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piezoelectricity" target="_blank">piezo</a> lighter anyone?) replacing the hammer in the future.
  • EvilSmooEvilSmoo Join Date: 2008-02-16 Member: 63662Members
    Heh, I like 6+8+9 too.

What's really important is the top/back of the gun. That's what everyone is gonna see most, if the aliens are seeing it, they're hardly going to be taking careful notes.
  • MelisandeMelisande Join Date: 2009-08-21 Member: 68564Members, Constellation
I like eight and nine because they remind me of the NS1 pistol, though with obvious changes that reflect time and advancement. I wonder which design the developers went with.

Hmm a gun with no recoil? Depends on how you define "no" recoil. But i'm sure that gun has recoil... Probably the same or close to any .357 revolver of similar barrel length. A .357 deagle probably has less recoil then that just because it's probably a heavier gun.

Hmm that's an interesting problem. As guns become made more and more from plastic and titanium and aluminum, the recoil grows. The frontiersman guns are probably 100% plastic, but utilize some sort of recoil dampening, or very underpowered ammunition ( <--probably that :P).

Also you mention electrical systems. Ya i'd expect that also. But more-so for the idea of guns that identify the shooter or something similar. This rifle has no moving parts associated with the trigger and firing pin: <a href="http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/special_runs/past_special_runs/model_700_etronX.asp" target="_blank">http://www.remington.com/products/firearms..._700_etronX.asp</a> (It fires bullets with special primers that get zapped and it ignites the bullet. The only thing that really makes this useful is for snipers to make even cleaner trigger squeezes.)

over here recoil and the travel upwards basicly mean the same.

anyway, I only know of such concepts as theories, and read about them while researching the anime "vash the stampede" as there are weapons utizilized that seemingly spit bullets around their center, below the chamber - the entry meant it shouldnt work as you cant reload that stuff properly.

ps: I'm not a gun nut, so i dont realy understand what theyre writing about, but it appears to me that the bullet is triggered by a hammer thats in turn triggered from the electronic system (else they'd need to sell special bullets that would come 2 or 3 times the normal price and still its problematic because you'd have to clean the chamber every 5 shots or so because of the remains).

Yes i was referring to "no" recoil. As in when people say a gun has "no" recoil, but their is "some" recoil :P

<!--quoteo(post=1725701:date=Aug 31 2009, 05:30 PM:name=RobB)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (RobB @ Aug 31 2009, 05:30 PM) <a href="index.php?act=findpost&pid=1725701"><{POST_SNAPBACK}></a></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->ps: I'm not a gun nut, so i dont realy understand what theyre writing about, but it appears to me that the bullet is triggered by a hammer thats in turn triggered from the electronic system (else they'd need to sell special bullets that would come 2 or 3 times the normal price and still its problematic because you'd have to clean the chamber every 5 shots or so because of the remains).<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Actually it's even less mechanical then you describe. In short the trigger just has a little spring on it for some sort of smooth press, but after that it's just an electric switch closing. Their is no hammer... just electricity flowing into an electrically-detonating cap in the bullet.

    <a href="http://www.riflemagazine.com/images/magazine/ACFA159.gif" target="_blank">http://www.riflemagazine.com/images/magazine/ACFA159.gif</a>

On the right you see the weird looking, almost miniature-shotshell-209, style primers in these weird proprietary bullets.

    <a href="http://fieldandstream.blogs.com/photos/uncategorized/arcignition_silo71.jpg" target="_blank">http://fieldandstream.blogs.com/photos/unc...tion_silo71.jpg</a>

Wow their's an awful lot of electrical components (subject to un-expected-failure) on that guns' circuit board lol

    No.

<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recoil" target="_blank">"Recoil is the 'kick' given by a gun when it is fired. In technical terms, this kick is caused by the gun's backward momentum, which exactly balances the forward momentum of the projectile."</a>

It has nothing to do with upwards travel. However, guns with no recoil or recoil only directly backwards do exist and are obiously good for pinpoint accurcy of repeated shooting.

9 looks like one of those crappy 1 dollar toys you get at the dollar store.

I say we take the top 4 results and let players choose which model they want.

    Hehehe.

Those look like that because they have to be impressive and otherwise aesthetically pleasing, rather than realistic. Unless the majority of the playerbase are gun nuts, I know which to go with.

For some reason the more realistic looking weapons got the most votes here. Guns that resemble the old pistol, not some organic Star Trek phaser. The theme of the TSA was more industrial in NS1 and it's a very sad loss in this game.

If you add a shot of blur to that one it looks kinda neat.
I'm thinking of taking the ]-nozzle of 6 and the \-slide below the barrel of 9 to add it as well.

Just as an update, the pistol is concepted, modeled, and being textured. It started out using #6 as a base, with a few bits from some of the other designs, and then quite a few revisions were done to it on top of that. It should work out pretty well.

Sorry we haven't shown it yet, but we are planning on starting to reveal some of the weapons soonish. Stay tuned.
