I have a few small problems
<div class="IPBDescription">No really i have...</div>Problem 1: I'm stuck at school.
Problem 2: They recently installed a new proxy server that prevents you from doing anything, running AIM, MSN, even Trillian & Opera.
Problem 3: Redownloading Opera made it work because of it's auto-detecting proxy function. Copying the proxy address from Opera to Trillian doesn't work.
Problem 4: Keep in mind I have absolutly no knowledge of proxy servers so if I've said something mind numbingly stupid then excuse it.
Problem 5: I need to know the proxy address and port number my school uses so I can get trillian to work... are there any third party programs I can download or anything like that which will tell me what I need to know so that I don't have to go see the administrator... since like hell he'll give it to me.

<!--EDIT|MonsieurEvil|Mar. 18 2002,13:54-->
Our admins forgot to block the main page, and only blocked the front. <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->
i had probs gettign my proxies right, it works now, btu with this tool i can scan for open ports 2!
BTW WB Spyder, it seems like a long time since I last saw you here
Thanks!
Any .exe that we download usually can't be run, because there isnt permission to. We found a way around that (*loves MS security*). We would just run it through the "Preview in Browser" option in FrontPage 2000.
The security is a load of BS. I complained because even when I am doing projects at school, useful sites that I visited from home are firewall'd at school. Heck, they even had the UN site blocked under "Misc" once?!? Unfortunately, ALL school connections are routed through a main server at the school divison headquarters and they run the internet firewall, so I can't locally bust past it. Some sites (ie. gamespot) have only the main page blocked like Spyder said, but most have the whole thing blocked.
Some more info: When the school server died one day, I logged in, and alot of the security was off or non-existant. It seems alot is run from the server. I could right-click, get into system properties and all that. I tried pulling out the network cable and loggin in, but it just complains it can't make contact with the server. Heck, even our version of Windows NT is only running service pack 4.
Sheesh, long rant I got going here...
On to the questions:
1 - Any idea how to get by the firewall for the internet? I think it is... Web Sense.
2 - Any idea how to get in system properties (just so I can change color settings and resolution, 800x600 is way too damn small)
3 - Any idea about getting right click to work?
No prob, Interfector - just don't go hacking anyone with that thing!
Woo dogee Comp - they have gone the way of the Group Policy Lockdown with User Profiles. Done correctly, it can be terminal to a school user trying to get a days 'puting in. What OS are they using on all these PC's? The reason that the policies didn't work when that server was down was probably that they use domain-based, server-side policies rather than local machine ones.
The easiest way around that is to logon with a non-domain ID. you could also try running gpedit.msc (if win2000) or poledit.exe (if WinNT4), and see if they bothered to lock those down - once you get into them, you'll see how they are used to restrict access. Also, if they still let you run regedit.exe (they better not!<!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->, then you can find any HKEY_Current_User keys marked 'GroupPolicy' and delete them to unlock most of the PC.
As for their websense server, that is a wacky kind of combo product that is mostly used to restrict site access. It's not a true firewall or proxy - more of an in-between. If they have it in-between your LAN and DMZ/internet routers, you're kinda screwed. Look for backdoor circuits and proxy servers with a port/network scanner - often times the IT guys themselves will have one as a failover, and for unrestricted surfing for themselves.
I have no idea on earth why they would lock down the context menu (rt-click). That's just plain spiteful, as it's extremely useful and doesn't contain anything that an application itself doesn't already have.
Finally, you could just find some pictures of the head of IT with a goat and get yourself unrestricted in a hurry.

Well, we are running NT4, Ill try that poledit.exe, where could I find it? Also, there is no run option in the start menu, cant even get into DOS, sheesh. Our school is locked up tighter than Fort Knox. Heck, from the divison router in, we cant ping/tracert anything. I have scanned the thing over and over. Not a single bloody port seems to be open, and I dont know how!
I must admit, the one time I logged in when the server was down we had some "fun". They use online attendance system, so we went in and just replaced some pictures and words (nothing major). "Welcome to this school's poor attendance system" "If a student is away, please choose "he is skipping"" <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->
Unfortunatly she doesn't have access to any of the admin functions...
Ok, I got the program but I have no idea what any of the information on my screen means. Which of it is relevant to finding the proxy port and address of the server?
Sued tafe and all hell broke lose my friend got on student counsel to get it removed because the admin did not resource the product before buying it for it blocks out almost every thing (literally)
The first I got around by making my own clock and File manager in C++, the second we have yet to figure out. We have got to all the funky things in DOS (Computer->Computer Messaging) using another funky program designed by our 'in house team', and we reconfigured the software that stops you from using certain programs so it killed the Spyware on startup. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->
As for installing other programs, you have to get ti all ready beforehand, file strucures and all, then copy the whole thing onto the Hard drive.
Im still looking for an IRC client that works, as Java has been disabled, and it is not possible to install mIRC, etc.
Well, you want to use it scan for servers with open ports. Can you get to your browser proxy config and see what port they specified for proxy server? Once you know that, you can start scanning the network for servers with that port open - usually there won't be that many proxy servers around, as they are trying to control access.
I use it for Trillian, Download Accelerator, AIM, and any Kazaa-style programs I use. But it has to be a microsoft proxy server, otherwise it won't work.
In the meantime i've managed to distract those who care by installing DooM 1 and 2 and playing that instead.
