Gun that fires grenades

a grenade firearm
A revolutionary new suggestion! I know exactly what NS2 needs. I wish the military invented something like this!

A gun that fires grenades that have a lot of splash damage and that kill skulks anywhere inside of the splash radius. This firearm that fires grenades should also be completely useless to marines what so ever because of having extremely low DPS due to long reloads and small magazine capacity. There should also be a more awesome gun that completely dwarfs this gun for the same amount of money.

What do you guys think?

I&S in dire need of more rules (e.g. stop suggesting new aliens) and harsher moderation.

While OP is full of troll, it's also pointing out an important flaw with the gl in NS1; the damage it does to buildings is not worth its drawbacks when there are only a few buildings. The only legitimate time I see it used is to clear gorges off the top of the second hive.

This could change in NS2 if chambers and other alien defenses have a more prominent role though.

Edit: Also wasn't there an official statement to the effect of the gl becoming an attachment to the lmg a while back?

Maybe we should make it clip-based reload again, that'll make it useful...

.. what. If you're talking about the NS1 GL it's actually already pretty useful for organised teams when attacking certain hives. I m o there's nothing wrong with having guns that specialize. The GL not used every match isn't a bad thing.

I think GL could have a little bit more use, but it has been partitially a matter of map selection.

haha I remember when the GL was actually using the current(?) HMG model. Can't efen remotely remember what the HMG looked like back then.

HMG has been the same for ages I think. The GL used an old model originally intended for HMG. It had some similarity to the OICW that every game seems to have nowadays.

I remember a full marine team standing on their personal armory and spamming grenades to their hearts content.

I would say it's a bad thing. Basically it's a commander that has no idea a gl is needed, and when it isn't. So he just gives out hmgs or shotguns at random. Eventual marine failure is predicted.

Yes in every map, their are instances where a gl would be ideal to dumping all of your ammo at a couple of alien structures... and sometimes a gl, speeding up the process, is mission critical.

Just the same... sometimes a gl is NECESSARY to kill aliens with. For example if the entire alien team is skulks... then by all means use the most devastating weapon available against them.

So the best part of all of this is in NS2, marines can self manage their equipment, choosing what works best for them based on their past experiences... instead of leveraging everything on the coms micromanagement of resources.

Therefore, we can expect more gls in use when a particular marine desires it (sort of like CO). It will be cool :p ... i mean how often can you ask a random com for a gl, and get one!!

Also i know i read that the marine weapons would be configurable to allow for different attachments where a gl tube being one of many accessories... only thing is the NS2 screenshot posted doesn't appear to possess equipment rails?

Everyone listen to focusedwolf, he is the expert game-analyst here.

Say, focusedwolf, has anyone offered you the opportunity to replace MasterP as John Madden's retarded cousin for NS2?

    This is going nowhere.

Incidentally, an image with an amusing subtitle is not a post.
