So... Will the LMG acctually look good in NS2?

<div class="IPBDescription">The old one was bleh</div>The old NS LMG kinda looked crappy for a futuristic gun. The side clip was ugly, the two colored finish were ugly, the scope was ugly, it just looked like suck.

In the new frontiersmen renders... Is that the model for the LMG? Or are they just concept work?

    I absolutely LOVED the NS LMG. that LMG was very lightweight, compatible, and flimsy. This was perfect for the quick marines that were scouting the abandoned space posts. Of course the more solid HMG was a very good complement once the marines had their base established. Sure the scope was kinda useless, but it was a very unique model for all the hl1 mods that were out (I mean at least the ones I played. CS, DOD, TF, specialists, etc.). I loved that little side clip. And to be honest, had the NS1 team used some bs ak-47 banana clip mock-up or had used some bs clunky SPACE MARINE BLOCK gun, I probably would have been a little discouraged to play ns. Even their hmg model with that weird little ammo case was unique.

    I loved that lmg. where's the love diesel damn...

    The mockups on the other hand show a more 'solid' lmg. It looks like you can throw it at someone and break their spine. This should fit in well with the new marine that appears to not fck around. their armor is a little beefier and every structure is bigger and badder. NOW you can insert block gun here.

    but seriously i loved that lmg

    There was nothing wrong with the LMG in NS1, just as Commie Spy says it looked unique.
    The only thing that was the big minus for the weapon itself was the feel it gave, which was just flimsy (this is because the weapon wasn't supposed to be accurate anyway) and a bit unrobust. But the characteristic look, the clip on the side and the reloading animation really made it quite good in my book.

    I liked how the NS1 LMG looked.

    I also liked the feel of it, it goes where you point it, unlike most guns in most games, the trick is to avoid flailing madly.

    Perhaps it isn't very good in terms of gameplay because it means a sufficiently skilled marine can kill most skulks, or that a sufficiently skilled skulk can kill most marines, which makes the game a bit hard to get into when you're dying uncontrollably, but it was interesting if you could compete like that.

    Since Flayra claimed that these renders are ingame renders, the gun you see on them must be the LMG we will be using ingame...

    I'd love to see a blog post about the lmg, or if that's not enough content, about a few weapons... (although I think it should be after they are finalised for beta, no "would you like this?" hehe) I liked the unique nature of all the NS1 weapons and hope that there's something 'a bit odd' about the weapons this time around, I do like the no-nonsense look of the lmg in the renders,

    if someone layed out both old and new in front of me and said
    "You have to go shoot aliens, choose a gun"
    I'd defo pick the new one. ;)

    The LMG in NS1 was by far my favorite weapon of choice. Sure it couldn't do as much damage as the other weapons, but I love the sleek look of it, the side clip is what made me fall in love with it, the scope adds a nice decorative feature, and the amazing accuracy it has for picking off skulks was phenomenal.

    I'm also digging the new look of the LMG. Can't wait to gun-butt some skulks and gorgies.

    I am not surprised that the LMG and HMG are getting merged. They were already very similar weapons.

    It seems like there is only the MG, Shotgun and Flamethrower in the weapons department. I remember there being word that the GL is being removed and instead is becoming an attachment....

    You are being silly with that blatant exaggeration. Mechanically, the difference between the HMG and LMG is that the HMG does more damage, wider spread, larger clip size and longer reload times. Essentially, the HMG was a LMG++ in the sense they were both automatic rifles. The differences between the HMG and Pistol are:
    - Automatic Weapon vs Semi-Automatic
    - Primary vs Secondary weapons

    I would agree with you except the HMG also has a different damage type (50% to structures). I don't remember if the RoF is the same.

    As it stands now, the marine's weapon arsenal consists of the melee weapon, pistol, assault rifle, grenade launcher attachment for the assault rifle, shotgun, flamethrower, and minigun.

    Well, lets compare that to the LMG / HMG split

    --Purchased weapon vs default weapon
    --Large spread vs small spread
    --Considerably higher damage per bullet for HMG
    --150% larger clip for HMG
    --100% longer reload for HMG
    --1/2 damage to structures for HMG

    I'd say that wasn't much of an exaggeration at all. LMG vs HMG is only slightly more comparable than Pistol vs HMG, and at least as different as Pistol vs LMG.

    That is a nice collection. I hope the assault rifle has semi-auto/burst/full-auto. I would also like to see scope attachments that can go onto the rifle + shotgun + flamethrower + minigun. Maybe to function as a night scope or infrared scope or just be a standard crosshair + zoom. Actually i'd rather have a reddot attachment with no zoom, or variable zoom that can be turned up to like 10x and down to 0x.

    One way those scopes can work is they communicate with your helmet-hud to give you night vision mode or highlight targets with outlines, etc... i.e. augmented reality.

    I think their should be one more weapon. The assault rifle should be in the mode of 1-3 shots to kill when accurately fired, but the option of full auto to spray. And i'd like to see a SMG as an option to the assault rifle. Something with 100 round magazine + full auto + heavy recoil offset with high rate of fire. Inaccurate at distance. But the key point is the SMG should be an option... sort of a free gun choice like the assault rifle.

    So the SMG should be like the space marines pulserifle from movie Aliens... and yes a pump grenade launcher attachment :P

    The assault rifle would be for the elite players that can actually aim :P

    True enuff, generally tho in most games shotguns are thought of as very short range hamburger machines.. :X Not somthin with a scope on em.

    (I doubt that mechanical sights will be used by high-tech future space marines as anything other than a well-proven backup. The easiest solution that comes to mind is a simple two-piece triangulation device attached to the gun that relays the position and orientation of the muzzle in relation to your fancy space-marine face display. This way you wouldn't need to move your whole torso to aim the gun. Think of how much faster budding space marines can acquire targets!)

    I think a dot sight would still be nice, for more accurate shooting.
