Radarman and Voice Communications

Have radar be an item that you wield. Commander can designate a radarman. This can add a real squad dynamic to the gameplay. The radarman can dual wield the radar and a pistol. When he switches to his rifle, he cant look at his radar. He can use voice chat to warn his squad of nearby enemies. The radar could have other abilities such as being able to scan and identify what kind of alien life form is approaching (skulk, onos, lerk) or what kind of alien structure is nearby. The radar could also give another ability which I mention in the next part.
About the voice chat only to people around you, I think you can solve it this way. Voice chat can be normal and you can talk to all your
allies. But perhaps the aliens can have some sort of organic tower that emits some sort of high frequency waves that disrupt long distance
communication. So that when you enter a desginated area that has this tower, you can only communicate with people that are nearby
( in the same room as you). I think that it is an interesting idea to think about because not being able to communicate to allies can add
more atmosphere. It can be very suspenseful and will add an element of fear. Plus, its another dynamic that encourages more teamwork
and moving in squads as opposed to running around alone. Also, this could relate to the radar I mentioned earlier. The marine with the radar can be immune to the communication interference as a means of contacting the commander or nearby squads.
As you approach this tower, your voice can sound a bit more like radio static as a warning. And when you completely enter the towers zone you can have a warning appear on your hud [warning! communications interference] and/or have a female computer voice say it.

I think it will be much more accessible and with at least as much depth. Here are some specifics on how we're doing this:

- The Commander and non-Comms are more decoupled so they can each be more effective on their own. Of course the best teams will have everyone working together, but Commanders will be able to be effective with braindead non-Comms (through the use of AI builder bots/nymphs and spell-like abilities) and the ability for marines to buy their own weapons/equipment from armories...<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
