Hello I'm new here and introducing myself. I think most of you got the wrong impression of me. I have already pre-ordered NS2. I'm not here to steal players to Savage 2. That was merely a suggestion to pass the time while you wait. I know many Savage 2 players will be switching out to Natural Selection 2 when it's released. I used to play NS1 but I was a little bit late. I won't miss the launch this time around though!

BTW how do you all imagine the competitive scene to be like? I never was into it in NS1 so I'm not sure how you guys do things.

I have a feeling this "first post" will be better received than your other one. The other one sounded more like an advertisement(granted for a free game) than an introduction.

I think we need a "Hello" thread for everyone new because this is getting a bit boring!

Hello I'm Thaldarin and I've been here since, look to your left under my avatar.

Everyone? Sure you can call me dumb, but do you want to take that position against Comprox?

Okay not everyone. there were some posts that actually gave a respectful reply. First 3 posts were lame. Comprox is on the dumb list. Although, it was posted in a wrong thread i suppose.

Awwww, thank you! I made a list! welcome to forums, sorry about the first thread. It came across wrong and then people were just being insulting. I could delete basically all the replies but it's usually not worth the effort. Enjoy your stay here.

Is it just me, or is Comprox's post a darker background than others?

Must have been a part of the *fix* this morning. It looks bluer to me rather than darker(I use the UWE skin not the NS2 skin generally).

Comprox and I haven't always seen eye to eye. Although I'd never put him on the dumb list, especially if you want to stay posting on here; take it from someone who learned the hard way. Right Compy? :)

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion.
I think he should join us on his own dumb list, but that's just my opinion.

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking but the NS1 competitive scene was a lot of fun. I got out earlier rather than later so honestly I don't know what things were like once the walls started closing in (some members like say Firewater had a distinct tendency to eat their young), but there wasn't a lot of drama. You could usually get a scrim with anyone you wanted, and almost everyone played spontaneous pickup games when their clan wasn't around. We primarily used IRC and ventrilo for communication. I never played S2 enough to know but my guess is that, like NS, competitive play is practically a different game than the randomness of public servers. It was really the way to play, even if your clan sucked and you lost every time.

Also since about 3b5, featuring stable leagues. The European scene is about to begin its final (13th) season in the ENSL which has been going for quite a while. Back in the peak of NS there were 5+ divisions being played per season. In between seasons (~3 months usually?) a ladder and one day cups run. Unfortunately the American scene died a while ago.

Every so often the NA/Aussie/EU communities came together and held intercontinental competitions ranging from clan vs clan (NSI tournament) to country vs country (Nations Cup... the Finns and Swedes always win :|) to continent vs continent (EU vs NA, Europe has won 3 times and tied once... when NA had a guy get caught cheating). The first EU vs NA match actually had Flayra commentating back in 1.04 and got me interested in competitive play, he sounded so excited haha

Running all the time are pick up games, with recent functionality added to the ENSL page so that you can sign up on there without even having to open an IRC client, although the majority of the community is based around IRC, like most other games, idling clan channels etc.

So yeah, you can pretty much enter at any level and have more fun than on public.

I should probably add that the ENSL is gearing up to move over to NS2 when it's released and has recently decided to enforce their rules more harshly, so you'll find less (hopefully none with Internet Detective / Forum Admin Fana on the case...) internet kiddies being tolerated for the sake of keeping the league going, which was sadly a problem for the last few seasons what with NS1's popularity draining. If that put you off before then you should probably give it another chance come NS2 time.

Very awesome. Thanks for the info guys. I really like the idea of commentary, I hate to bring it up again, on S2 we have people stream and commentate on the matches. It makes the competitive scene astoundingly more interesting and I hope you guys have some form of doing that as well. It's nice to see how intricate your leagues are and I hope the American scene comes back for NS2.

You shouldn't feel like you can't bring up S2. I think we all just felt your other post sounded like an advertisement more than a friendly suggestion, but Savage is one of the few games where a direct comparison to NS is apt considering how similar they are.

I really hope they have something similar to HLTV (spectator server with match recording) in NS2, but as far as I heard this may not make it to release. It definitely adds a lot of spice to the competition.
