in a case like this, even if there wasn't "audio simulation", wouldn't there effectively be sound in space? there's no air outside your space suit to vibrate, but there is plenty of air inside the suit and around your ears. The gun would be discharging and vibrating against your suit and hand, vibrating the air in your suit, and you could hear it. Of course it would probably sound nothing like actual gunfire in an atmosphere...
also, it is amusing that only about 10% of the posts in this thread are about the game. It does look neat, and I too do not have DX10. It reminds me of Ender's Game also. Weren't they supposed to make a Battle School game? or maybe I'm just thinking of the comic book.
You are not misremembering: <a href="http://ps3.ign.com/articles/848/848344p1.html" target="_blank">http://ps3.ign.com/articles/848/848344p1.html</a> We'll see how that one goes. I just learned about it myself... like, ten minutes ago.

Maybe, but you wouldn't hear anything else. Except stuff hitting you.

Which would suck.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> And probably would be deadly since a spacesuit does not like holes, or rather the person inside the spacesuit doesn't like holes D:
I think they're firing ice bullets. Their ammo counters say ICE before the amount of remaining ammo.
And, everyone also keeps assuming that the bullets are traditional gunpowder bullets. They could have a different propellant, such as a plastic explosive, and electricity to fire. It would still make an explosion.

Could be awesome railguns. Doesn't need to be a propellant.
Also we're talking about a game in which a mining company blew a huge chunk of the moon off, which naturally led to an infantry war fought via men in spacesuits jumping around on asteroids. It is not the most logical of settings. The guns make people dead is about as much thought the designers put into the mechanics behind them.
Why WOULDN'T they be gunpowder cartridges? We've already established that they'd work perfectly fine. Meanwhile, cartridges with high explosives for propellant (gunpowder is classified as a low explosive) would be a massively bad idea at least by modern standards. You'd have to use materials far stronger than anything we currently make firearms out of (yes yes, sci-fi nanites, I know!) or the entire thing would explode. You don't want the gun you're holding to explode.

Ah, <strike>magic</strike> sci-fi technology. How silly of me.
Frankly, "sound in space" is far better left unexplained than rationed away. Unexplained "sound in space" is considerably less silly than any justification for it.

So, I upgraded to win7 and bought it.
IT's a Death match. The zeroG stuff is interesting, and it has a number of interesting ideas. Not something I will play a lot, but really worth messing around with every so often.
It is very much a 'tactical' game, where it is all about catching the other guy unaware, coming at him from a direction he doesn't expect, and killing him before he can react.
The lack of VC is sad, though I have seen people do some pincher type things where you come at a group of enemies from 3 sides at once and totally waste them (grouping up is bad, makes you easier to spot).
also, they are not ICE rounds, that is just the grenade type selected.
Oh right, some interesting things:
When you go into stealth mode, you do hear your own gunshots, and things hitting you, but that is it. Also, the second you die all sound cuts out. They were nice touches that really did help the immersion thing.

is there a single player at all? is it worth it? from the trailers it looks like a twitch shooter, is this the case? is there a lot to the game or is it pretty much all shown in the trailer?

There is no single player unless there's skirmish against the AI.

As I said before: It is almost 100% about getting the drop on the other guy by positioning. your movement is slow, you can't dodge for ######, and hitting people is easy.
honestly, save your cash unless you are really interested in messing about in zero g.

Also off-topic here we come again :D

Any one else played this yet?
I am waiting around to get my hands on a copy of Win7...

Some day, when I buy a new computer, I will return.
That is perhaps one of the scariest things I've heard all month.
