Mouse Acceleration

Hi. I was a huge fan of NS and only just recently learned of NS2.

Anyways, is mouse acceleration forced in NS2? It probably isn't considering it's being developed for PC, and the devs know how important accurate mouse movement is, but more and more PC games (mostly console to PC ports) are having mouse accel forced on. E.g. Dead Space, Bioshock, Mass Effect, and it really annoys me to no end.

Also, does the game/engine support direct input?

Functional and clear mouse settings would be sweet indeed. I've been struggling more than enough with HL's mouse settings.

Same thing with Arma 2 before they released a patch for it, as well as no in game command to check FPS.

What if you could disable mouse acc in-game? I'd still like to use mouse acc in Windows so not having to turn it off in the control panel would be nice.

CPL mouse fix actually doesn't do anything in Vista / Windows 7, which I assume most people will be using soon.

Even then, it doesn't completely remove accel. To fully disable accel you need to get a modified Windows system file, but then there's slight mouse lag which is bad. Disabling 'Pointer Precision' is good enough for me.

ALSO, even if you do all steps mentioned above to remove accel, the games I mentioned in my first post still have mouse acceleration hard coded into the game, which is the problem that I hope will not occur with NS2.

there should be ZERO mouse acceleration, if people want it they will leave it on globally in windows anyway.

Having mouse acceleration forced on in Dead Space made the shooting range so frustrating for me. It seriously took me twenty minutes just to complete it.

I don't think we have to worry about it in NS2, though, since it's a feature I've never seen outside of a console-to-PC port and I doubt UWE will try to change that considering how it's detrimental to aiming when using mouse and keyboard.

I say we play with a real mouse with its tail attached to our USB Ports. That way we can play with real, lifelike, precision in our 3D simulation devices.

If you can not tell that was sarcasm, nobody must like you in your life.

(There should be no mouse acceleration coded into the game. If you want it, use the Windows setting... enhance pointer precision. <---- That setting is the mark of the beast. =|)

Good settings are still cool. I've heard that a lot of good quake gamers use a slight bit of accelration as quake's accelration is easily configurable with a few variables.

Although, one could argue that it makes since in Quake. Since it is all about fast movement and twitch aim while strafe jumping at 1000+ MPH.

I used some macc in quake yeah, but not nearly as much as the default value in windows etc. It's a cool variable to have to play around with but myeh.

Does it have to be over analysed at every point?

Some people will want it, some people won't.

All that's needed is the option and a selectable value of acceleration if enabled.
