For players on lower-end computers, the additional light source may annoyingly drop FPS (in addition to the muzzle flashes etc) when trying to shoot and track a fast-moving target. Just something that needs consideration when it comes time to write those "Minimum requirements" specs.
Muzzle flash would imply that the projectile the marines are using has extra unburned gasses that are igniting outside of the barrel. I.e. a short barreled weapon using a high power bullet = big flash, wasted power of the bullets powder charge.
Look at the insurgency mod for half life 2... no muzzle flash and people contend you wouldn't see one anyway...
Of course their wouldn't be any of that in the future because the bullets would be propelled by some sort of rail gun, plasma, or anti-matter thing... perhaps making the weapon nearly 100% SILENT (would be useful indoors cause the guns wound be incredibly loud otherwise... i.e. sound suppression). At the very least we can assume the bullets are precisely manufactured to match the gun under 100% perfect quality control... i.e. no muzzle flash ever... 100% accuracy if gun is clamped in a vice... but recoil and bullet spread under human use. The barrel would never flex when firing and would be resistant or impervious to overheating (perhaps a firing mechanism that doesn't produce heat... maybe it produced cold)

Amen to that ! I'm surprised that you mention it.. so many games are not obeying to these rules and it even applies to board games. I think the rules are more strict to boardgames too.

So.. nobody thought about the Welder? I assume that it will definately produce muzzle flashes so that the skulk in the vent opening now can not only hear but clearly see in the far opposite corner of the room a fancy marine welding the door or another vent shut ! XD
I have hard time remembering a game that doesn't light up half the room with a muzzle-flash. Actually I think there's a gameplay mechanic to that: better visibility when firing.
Amusingly enough, we can see the gunfire lighting things up in the trailer (behind the closed door), but nothing of the sort on the screenshots.
Anyone seen the anime Legend of the Galactic Heroes? They didn't use lightsabers or knives or ###### like that when fighting in their spaceships. They used ###### battle-axes. And really, it made sense to me.
So, in summary: Though muzzle flash would not be realistic, if muzzle flash is cool, have it in, unless muzzle flash is bad for gameplay. In the end, this is entertainment, not a "serious game" combat simulation.

I used to remove it in older versions, it wasnt just slight improvement it meant a lot. I hope they do one that doesnt need tweaking so competitive will not have to ban it.

Good idea, or bad idea.
Yay for immersion especially in darker regions, boo for more work and more dynamic lighting requirements.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Good idea, of course!
If it works with the system requirement and doesn't cause any seizures then do it!
:)
