Spark: Selecting in 2d view

Seems the 2D view selection is very buggy. First thing you click on is selected and nothing else. The tuts show how you can select a lot of things in an area, but that doesn't work when there's other mesh behind the selection area, as the first click will just select that.
Hammer lets users select using either the edges or the center X, and if there are multiple layers of objects, continuously clicking will cycle through them.
