Mostly i'm having a really hard time lining up the models - they never seem to want to "snap" together on the grid, even when you hold the alt button, and even when it is two of the same model. it takes me a like a few minuntes of nudging and tinkering and even then its not always right.

is there some kind of secret to doing this quickley and accurately? so i can lay down a cat walk or a hallway out of similar pieces really fast.

As in, put a few props in a row with no gap between them? If so, they should snap fine under most grid settings: if they don't, maybe they weren't meant to be used this way. What exactly are you trying to do?

I cant stop the line tool or the square tool from snapping to other faces.
Finding it impossible to build extra geometry within an exsisting large room from any of the 4 views, I just cant seem to draw something in mid air while there is other gemoetry behind what you are doing, it just snaps to it.
