Why is Martin Luther King Jr. Day even a federal holiday?

ObamanismObamanism Join Date: 2009-11-20 Member: 69442Banned
MLK Jr. is best known for advocating civil rights in a time where minorities were discriminated upon. He was a leader, who inspired a lot of people. But haven't there been other people who have also done good? Why not rename it Civil Rights Day instead? MLK Jr. was not a perfect man. He was known to be a womanizer. So why not change it to be some kind of all inclusive diversity day instead of just dedicated to one man?

Plus he was a socialist and against the Vietnam war. Forward thinking states like South Carolina and Utah at least tried to have a human rights day that didn't champion a trouble maker like King.

Uhm, South Carolina used to let 16 year old students drive their school buses... not quite the forward.

ya more likely because of what he believed in and because of his skin color.

Your not getting the point. Ofcourse he should have a holiday after him.

Look at how much better racial relationships are. Honastly the only reason racism is around is because ignorant one minded people still exist.

"...use all available resources to form your own judgement..."

Means 'this is all complete bull######'.

Anyone who's done any work for the government knows there's no possible way ANY conspiracy theory could possibly be true.

The government couldn't even cover up breaking into a the goddamn DNC headquarters, much less masterminding a plan to kill whomever they want.

What, because all government employees being incompetent dopes, any government operation running wildly over budget, behind schedule, and with utter inefficiency is all part of the conspiracy!?

    Oh poop.

It's just like the old argument about ninjas:

Claim: There is no historical evidence of ninjas being super-sneaky assassins who could make it in and out of fortresses without being detected, killing anyone in their sleep.

Counter: That's because the successful ones were so good that nobody knew about them.

Similarly, the only reason we know they couldn't cover up breaking into the goddamn DNC headquarters is because they couldn't cover it up. If they had been able to cover it up, they would have covered it up and we wouldn't have known it! Therefore I can make all the wild claims I want and YOU CAN'T PROVE ME WRONG. HAH!

Pulling the ninja card is similar to cheating though! Do I have to get the space orks involved in this here thread, dammit!

Also Coke taste like sewage water, gimme a good ol' Pepsi Max any day! And who thought up the concept of putting lemon taste in cola's, you could just drink the soap and get a similar experience T_T

On another note, this part of the forum is starting to confuse me, topics and thread titles are all over the place. Off-topic is now officially off-topic...

Strictly speaking, "orks" are already "space orks", because non-space orks are called orcs. The term "space orks" is just redundant.

Also, how can we trust the word of anyone who's worked in the government? Sure, you claim you're inefficient and not good enough to pull off a conspiracy....

Which is exactly what you'd say if you were part of the conspiracy.

fixed; also it's worth pointing out that the flavour of soft drinks is regional and that there have been times where US and UK Pepsi/Coke/etc tasted completely different from itself :P
