Well, actually, all the realism in the bullets are really nice and perfect I'd say. I love it.. I love it when it goes well and that is only 1 out of 20 times. Seeing bullets go thru your enemies, getting killed once you're hidden, auto-aim knife randomly when you're behind your killer, all that kinda stuff happens every time every where, and That is what makes it random but not necessarily the realism they've added to the game.
I got absolutely screwed over- I bought the pre-release from Steam, with plans to play the beta and get a refund if I didn't enjoy it (I didn't).
In the midst of that, I changed ISP from a terrible provider to a god-awful provider. 4 weeks ago they took down my phone line, during which team BC2 went live so I lost my £35. They still haven't given me an internet connection- I've managed to fanangle my mobile and use it as a modem for the computer.
I picked it up on the first week of release. My Macbook Pro can barely run it with every setting on low and on a lower resolution than native. It was released annoyingly buggy, common crashes to desktop, server browser is trash, broken friends interface, etc.
Yet, I love it in spite of these things. The recent Nvidia driver update brought some much needed extra fps for me, I've actually been able to do some sniping (finally made it to 30fps). One of the things I like best about it is all the different ways you can contribute to your team without being a crack shot twitch gamer. I was getting decent scores playing at 15-20 fps (at best, heaven forbid I should get shot and vision blurs: slideshow mode till I die), I'd play medic or engineer and focus on healing/repairing, I'd have a 0 kills, 16 deaths and be 3rd place in score on my team.
I absolutely love the Spotting system. It's a great metaphor for something that's hard to convey in a virtual world. In real life it'd be pretty easy to describe someone's position to a teammate, not so much in games (even with voice chat which is kinda broken in BC2 anyway). Reminds me of parasites/hive sight in NS1, the 'spot' doesn't last forever and is dependent on line of sight. Keep them in view and they'll remain 'spotted', lose sight of them and the spotting icon will soon disappear. UAV + optics upgrade is great for major recon.
Good stuff in there, hope the Unknown Worlds team is checking it out for inspiration (for features, not for quality assurance).

I wondered where you went, I've been playing it for a few weeks inbetween HoN sessions, and I think it's decent. I just think the reticles have no bearing on where your bullets are going to go.
OK, I played through the single player campaign, pretty fun. Then I tried out multiplayer, and omg how awful :( I was expecting BF2 only fancier and more polished, but instead I got BF2 with all fun removed. No vehicles to mess around with, engineers can't repair, medics can't heal, pretty much no way to know wtf's going on, weapons don't seem to even tickle the enemy yet I die 2 seconds after every spawn... in BF2, you could always tell what's going on. I could dominate on foot, by jet, by heli, by tank... and playing BF:BC2 is like being lost naked in the woods surrounded by a firing squad.
They got the unlocks pretty much right with BF2, why would they take such a big step backwards and not even give you your class' basic tools to start with? Even if it gets fun after you work your ass off to get some decent equipment, that's terrible game design. You should not have to suffer in order to have fun.
It's ironic, the MW2 free weekend is what made me want to buy one of these two games, and I figured if I liked MW2 and I loved BF2, I would really love BC2... but I should have just bought MW2 -_- this is not just me being frustrated and complaining after playing for 10 minutes, either. I played for 3 or 4 hours, and in some rounds I almost had an even K/D ratio, but I still wasn't having any fun at all. There was nothing to do except try to play Where's Waldo and find grey colored bad guys in a gray colored forest, point my one lame gun at them, watch them die really slowly or not at all, die myself, and wait to respawn. It's like watching paint dry. Meanwhile in BF2, there's a million vehicles to jump in to get around or wreak havoc, your starter equipment was actually useful and gave you plenty to do, nothing is overpowered, you never feel like a helpless sitting duck.
It's not like me to go on a rant like this, but I just can't see how so many people really manage to have fun with this game -_- if I wanted to spend my free time working hard on something boring in order to have fun later, I'd be going to school at night to get my master's.
Since this just got bumped I'd like to point out how this game censors a ridiculous amount of words, even "suck," yet the voice actors are constantly screaming profanities throughout the round.

If it's any consolation I was awesome at BF2 and I'm also awesome at BC2. I don't know what's up with you but I started off with all my basic stuff unlocked. Even if you don't have that it takes like, a round or two to unlock it.

Actually... it's more like BF2142.... just back in the modern day. Probably where you got freaked out.
Also, apparently all vehicles in the world are built with one giant screw.
Don't own it, just watched buddy play. Wasn't too interested.

Just dropping in here. Bad Company 2 is a lot of fun in multiplayer. On release, they had a TON of server issues, but those issues are gone, now.
For whoever said medics can't heal and engineers can't repair...that's a flat out lie.
Anyway, it's kind of odd how they decided to give certain classes their weapon specialties. Medics get light machine guns, and engineers get silenced smgs. You would have thought the LMGs would go to some sort of "support" class, and the silenced weapons to recon. You get used to it eventually, though.
The graphics are awesome, the sound is great, as well. In general, it was well worth the purchase price, and far better than Modern Hackfare 2. Punkbuster has been banning cheaters left and right. The series still suffers from the imm. hack (let's users be immune to a weapon type of choice), but I'm hoping punkbuster will catch that soon. That hack has been around since bf1942, so I'm not sure why it's taking them so dang long to fix it.
Everyone also has full potential to unlock everything, pre-order or not. I also like how they have a lot of different unlocks to choose from, but you can only choose one out of each "unlock" section.
I personally enjoy using a fast firing LMG with low recoil on the first shot. I then use a x4 scope attachment, and use the extra damage ammo (makes up for less dmg LMG since it's a fast fire lmg). With this, I'm able to grab some decent far distance targets and take quick pop shots in quick succession (single firing to maintain my good accuracy on the first shot). I can often bring them down before they realize where the shots are coming from. If anyone gets up close, I can unload the LMG into them to take them out. The bad thing about this setup is that you sacrifice in many other areas for those particular unlocks. It's less accurate overall, for example, and I have less healing ability as a medic (heals a bit slower and the medkits have reduced healing range). Regardless, I come out as one heck of a combatant, and I still managed to keep my team alive regardless of the medkits healing a bit slower. Being able to go 40/5 and able to revive your fallen teammates is better than going 5/40 and healing a lot of people. If you revive someone, your team gets that "ticket" back....but if you're dying all the time, in the end you're hurting your team's progress by massive ticket loss.
You can really customize your class! :)
Having no prone is pretty lame, but the game is pretty fast-paced where generally going prone would be a bad idea...except for snipers...but they are already pretty overpowered. I grabbed a recon sniper kit for the first time and went 25/0 with it. With prone, they'd be nearly unstoppable. Perhaps if they went prone, they'd have to deploy the bipod and once deployed, they'd only be able to view 90 degrees in front of them until they undeployed.

I have played a bit more and I'm starting to have more fun. I still think the unlocks are a bit too punishing and there should be a higher emphasis on skill vs. putting in hundreds of hours to unlock all the good stuff. I think my first few hours in the game were on some of the harder maps and on a bad server, which colored my perception.

bah, I was just having a good game and then someone shot my tank so hard the game disappeared and I was back at the desktop. Not even the courtesy of an error message or crash notice.
That is the ######tiest site I've seen for a long time. You have to click veteran tab, login, get pushed back into main page, re-enter veteran tab, click your game, login with gamespy id (with a long code and large ERROR above it). And it still does not work. Sigh.

DICE makes good games, I'm a big fan. I blame EA. Sometimes feels like a console game ported to PC with a server browser tacked on.
