Agreed.
It would also use use up too much precious time to have to move around to see all the screens.
Reasons:
1) Small screen / field of view, which makes it harder to...
2) Accurately drop meds / whatever is dropped in NS2 compared to NS1 style, and...
3) Useless information is being displayed when the commander's screen space is too valuable to be wasted.
I'm sure there are more downsides, but you get the point.
I wouldn't sacrifice the ease of a clean separate UI for immersion.
Still, most likely too much of a pain to be constantly switching between screens...

I haven't seen that info and Flayra was still calling it a Command Station just two short months ago.

This sounds like a reason why the game should support multiple monitors.
