edit: Ziggy, if you're comparing my thread to an obamaism one you can go die in a fire :p
Here's the early leak of the official english hype trailer for the new chars, including a hint of the 10th character at the end.

I'll take your overwhelming silence as a sign of thanks and consider this my final update on this topic :p
In the unlikely event anyone wants the japanese one you're welcome to go find it yourself.

As for me, I like my fighting games. SFIV has some fun behind it somewhere but I often get bored or frustrated because the only character I remotely like in it is merely 'ok' as far as a character goes and in mechanics has a fairly lacking toolset.
the original SFIV was definitely aimed at recapturing the old players who'd been SFII fans but Super has been a kind of community projects of sorts with the dev team asking the more vocal communities who they wanted. I'm fairly happy with the addition of Ibuki (always wanted to play her but was never a SF3 player) and Juri (love the way she giggles away throughout play on her JP voice); they're both characters I genuinely like and seem to have good tools. That sorts my issues with old game.
As for why it's not DLC?
- 10 new characters
- Second Ultra for all 35 or so characters
- 4 new levels
- Brand new shiny interface to allow all this new stuff to even be selectable
- 20+ new songs
- Over 4 hours of new cutscenes including anime scenes by Gonzo studio. For the sake of reference it's 3x as much as SFIV.
- completely reworked network play including Team mode, winner stays on for up to 8 players and heck knows what else
- New costumes for the whole cast
- Balancing overhaul including some characters gaining new moves or large tweaks to existing ones.
- Dedicated replay channel
- Added hooks to the engine to allow much greater changes through future DLC
Don't know about you but my poor 360 is an original type so there's freaking way I'd fit all that on my HD and downloading it wouldn't be much fun :p
Guesswork aside, Capcom claim that some of the changes they needed to make required redoing parts of the engine at a core level; something they couldn't do with SFIV (as mentioned in the list, the new Super Streetfighter IV version of the engine has lots of added hooks to allow more significant changes via DLC than the previous version).
Anyhoo... my friend lent me 3rd Strike so I'm off to practice some more Ibuki on that in preparation for SSFIV. We hit up a fighting scene here in scotland every now and then so I need to be competent when they inevitably get a preview copy and have a tournament/play session with it :p
Ibuki is all tricks and links that lead into combos and the guhyven, and makoto is all about that dash in grab set up leading into that sliding punch thingy, but the timing is pretty strict.
Wonder if they're going to do any more price cuts.
She's one giant ball of punishable and has no tools to break a turtler.
I don't mind comboing up and I especially don't mind tricks, in fact I love them :3 I play Nu-13 and Rachel in Blazblue and my friends often lament the sky juggling combos I pull off with Nu (Not sure if I'll main lambda or mu-12 in Blazblue: Continuum Shift but I'm looking forward to it either way :3 ).
I've been practising with Ibuki in 3S and I like what I see. I played against my friends before I had a chance to learn her moves and got beat pretty badly but it was still fun. I didn't have that niggling sense of frustration or helplessness I get from playing Cammy :p
Reason for that is that Ibuki seems to have at least one tool for every situation. Whether they're turtling, fireball spamming, reversal happy or whatever she's got a decent enough answer for it. I'm pretty used to having almost no health so that doesn't bother me either (it's something I actively cultivate in other games actually; in RPGs I'll purposely avoid upping my character's toughness and HP until there's no other stats left to increase or the game throws in an 'hp check' - one of those undodgeable situations where you simply have to have enough health/toughness to take the hit. An example is Dark Falz in PSO who has an attack that just hits everyone no matter where they are.)
Who do you play TAK? and what's a guhyven? :o
Not sure when the next PS3 price cut will be Badmouth, but I do know that Super Street Fighter IV itself isn't going to be full price, which makes me happy :3 I play it on the 360. Don't particularly like the PS3 or 360 pads for it (though between the two the PS3 one is obviously the better choice - it's great for Blazblue and dear heck does the 360 have the worst D-pad ever or what?) As a result I forked out for a madcatz tournament stick. Might've cost me £150 but it's darn good and it's a fun conversation piece when people spot it in the flat and start stroking it :p
Might try to experiment with some pads though... I think I'm still a pad player at heart and while I like using the stick for Street Fighter with it's silly 6 buttons, I'd kind of prefer a pad for my 4 button games like Tekken or Blazblue. Considering looking at the new Hori EX Turbo 2 pads (if I needed a pad for my PS3 however, I'd seriously be considering the Hori Fighting Commander 3) or trying to find a saturn pad and converter or even just a simple converter to use my PS2 pads :p
The game is good, but I can't help getting so mad at the scrubs that just jump backwards and expect you to come to them. Chasing a hadoken spamming sagat around the level is so freaking annoying.

Gemmy (upon further review it would appear I rambled ♥)
Isn't Ibukis taunt the best? Not as useful as Q's but cute nonetheless
What super are you using with ibuki? You can do the ex uppercut kick that hits for 4 canceled into the air dagger super. I like the grab, it's strong and fast and does a ton of damage, the normal version does great damage as well, I use it on wakeup or to punish on wakeup. It can be blocked but hits like a grab if it hits. You can also link it from mediums for a meaty one two. You can do the crouching roundhouse to neutral roundhouse to forward roundhouse. The neutral round house acts like a launcher. The hop forward medium kick overhead can be linked into little combos. She has several button progression mix up combos. You can use her dash to cross folks on up knockdown as well, just hop over them. She also has a command dash iirc, as well as the slide head snap grabby thingy. Gotta string lots of little damage that hit 4 times leading to something, figure em out and work those ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRZQVf6tMNE <-- interesting mix up relauncher combos, they have to guess which direction you go teeheehee)
also http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Egjbfg9csnw appears to show some sweet stuff, if you watch how the 2nd round ends it's an amazing grab fake if you watch the necro go for the grab just to eat dagger
I can play a little of everyone, but I main Zangief. For mother Russia!
The trick to playing him is patients...
The things I'm working on now are the short x4 --> ex greenhand, and I'm also working on canceling focus into a dash use the dash to buffer super or ultra. You can also do lariat and if the first hit is blocked you can ex focus cancel and the dash --> ultra
Guhyven is what prof whatever his name is (the nerd) in the Simpsons says for exclamatory effect, sorry no frame of reference on that one... It was kinda outta left field
[edit]
I'm looking forward to cody, guy, adan, and maybe T.hawk. Oh and Siberian blizzard (zangief anti air jump grab ultra)
[edit2]
Fixed a broken link, and a minor typo
DEUTZ VEDANYA TOVARISH (until we meet again, comrade)
[edit3]
Another Sagat flowchart, whynot?
[/edit]
At the moment my two hardest hitters with ibuki that I can get fairly regularly in arcade mode are:
1) Crouch Roundhouse -> Standing Roundhouse (close) -> Medium Kick
2) Juming Fierce Punch -> Medium Kick -> Half Circle Back Punch
for some bizarre reason these two do waaay more damage than some of the more complex combos I've got under my belt. the med kick on 1 almost doubles the damage caused (though for some reason it does less in the corner o.O ). 2 I noticed Aruka (high level ibuki player... wait, that's who your second link is about XD ) use and copied it after realising how stupidly damaging it is :3
That first ibuki vid is new to me though, looks handy. Thanks TAK =D
Zangief is fun to fight, though it's always slightly annoying when I beat the snot out of one only for him to finally get two grabs on me at the very end and suddenly win :p
As for Sagat spam abra, he's got some changes headed his way in Super. General reduction in both health and damage. That said, he's also getting a new move that for 1 ex bar makes him flash invincible for a few frames while he touches the scar on his chest and then his next tiger uppercut after that will do double damage :s
I like the tournie stick, it's great and totally worth what I paid, but at the same time I have trouble making sure the stick is at the right angle. I'll go fights without being able to do any of my moves, then with just a slight shift of how it sits in my lap I'm pulling moves off like a pro again :o
That's one advantage I'm missing from pads; orientation isn't relative. Because you hold the pad, exact left is always in the same place for your fingers. Learning where exact left is on the stick is a little trickier and can shift through the match due to me fidgeting which causes my execution to drop :p
My only worry is that I'm training in 3rd Strike. When I get my hands on super I'm going to have to adjust to some of the changes. One of the more interesting ones for Ibuki is that her normal dash (the little hop) won't go through people anymore, BUT her command dash will instead. I guess that's good because right now I don't find myself using her command dash (you take extra damage if you get hit doing it o.O ). Wonder if they'll drop the damage penalty on it too (hope so). The SA that's like Raida on crack (the throw fireball thing) is one of her ultra's now and it's improved so it's safer than it is in 3S. Her air kunai Super is her Super in SSFIV. Her other Ultra is the super she had in NG and 2I that was removed in 3S (Hassan Sho or something similar... Chun Li pinched it off her in 3S :p ). The loss of parries and in the addition of focus will have an effect too. Should be interesting XD I swear her kunai look like they're faster too.
For extra fun I've been trying to learn to taunt kara focus in normal SFIV, but the timing is tricky :p
(that's where you focus an attack and instead of dashing to cancel, you taunt. The effect looks like you just absorbed an attack while taunting because the focus animation doesn't get played.)
I drop an enemy, splash them a few times, and then they will wake-up shouryken EVERY time, easily countered by just waiting and going in for a grab, or close roundhouse to Guacamole Slew (anti-air throw).
TL;DR Complexity scares the bejeebus outta me.
It's only really important if you play against high level players or you want to be really good. If you're just messing about with friends who aren't huge fighting fans then none of this is really important (and it's probably better in these situations if you don't know anything too technical or you'll just wreck them and frighten them off :p ).
Ooh! El Fuerte Abra? You should totally check out Brainz's vids. Stumbled across his youtube stuff a while back and it's pretty impressive :3
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULRv83R0UP0
I kinda got a giggle out of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8uIBRApifR4 (song is meant to be from Balrog's Point of View.)
I've got to admit, if my friends weren't all about SFIV I'd probably be all over Blazblue instead or maybe Tekken / Soul Calibur :p
I think you have it confused with 3D fighters. This is a 2D fighter, a game for non-spastics.
I played a bit of tager when I touched guilty gear for a couple weeks
Hey! 3D Fighters are games of skill too LF. Unless you play Maxi of course :p
with the magnitizing and the pulling and the guhyven

I admit it does take a certain skill to train your index finger to 15 twitches per second.
Like when you are with a mouse with a mousewheel on it.
edit.
Way to keep the thread classy Abra :o
You'd hate me in Blazblue then TAK. I play Nu-13... it's like the worst matchup for Taeger evaaaaaar :3
I've been holding on to my friend's PS3 copy of Blazblue that he imported but now that it's coming out over here proper I feel I should buy it just to support the cause. Thing is, I don't know whether to buy in on PS3 or 360. I'm used to playing Arc systems games on PS3/PS2 pads but 360 always has better online support. Then again the 360 version seems to be more expensive than the PS3 version for some reason... buuuut the 360 one comes out 3 days earlier. ~confuzzled~
Does it? :(
I hear people have been getting their hands on an emulated version of Continuum Shift but I'm preeetty sure that's not legal :p
