Mining The Ceilings?

when mining base, what's your setup?
Okay, so you've got a corridor into your base. And, having a competent team (I usually play with four or five friends, headsets as well), You don't have to worry about idiot grunts.

So, how do you mine the corridors? do you put them on the ceiling, the walls, right at the doors, inside? Like with turret placement, I'm sure that the layout is important to keep jumpy Skulks and flappy Lerks from zipping through, and leaving all your work for naught.

Opinions, please. ^_^

(edit: for example, in Eclipse, the two corridors that come into the main start area from the south...)

I like to put them on the other side of doors and overhangs so that the aliens can't see the mine to kill it.

Also try placing a mine on the far walls to create a kind of grid that the aliens can't get throuhg easily.

Question - if you set up a mine so that the laser beam is hitting a door, and the door opens, does the beam continue on until the door is shut?? I would assume it would, but I've never tried/seen it before.

If the beam does continue on when the door is open, you could really scare the hell out of some Skulks trying to come through. It'd be like getting shot with a laser.

I suppose the only situation that this would work is if the wall is very close to the door - if it's far away, the damage radius from the mine wouldn't reach them.

Another thing that I forgot, put a mine at the bottom of the doorframe right on the inside of the door. I've seen tonf oe eager sulks run through a door before waiting to see what's on the other side.

Also try and lure aliens into mines; sulks love chasing retreating marines.

I don't use mines too often, but when I do, I often prefer to place them on the ground, where they're a bit less obvious. (No, that huge, glowing red beam of death isn't a clue in or anything... ) Ahem.. But I find that plopping a few close together on the top of a ladder to be mildly effective. Skulks tend to prefer walls to ladders of course, but if a gorge, or a fade, of even an Onos (how DO they use ladders anyway? ) decides to climb up... BOOM.

If you have 5 mines on a hallway exit (one on top, one on bottom, and three middle, in a left-right-left configuration), and, say, a Fade / Skulk prances on through, do all five go up?

(example on mine configurations - comments as to whether this works are also appreciated)

i dont know never had good effect with mines... adn when i plant em on the ground (no laser beam there) i havn't seen them go off once.. even with onos's trampling over them.. i dont get how they work.

Also remember, once the aliens get 2 hives mines are more of a liability than an asset. Fades have a nasty habit of waiting till a group of mainres walk by a set of "safe" mines, and then using an Acid Rocket to cook your squad to extra crispy.

I like to place mine in close/open doors. They wont blow when the door closes, and the alien will find some Resident Evil Theatre flashback when he runs straight into the lasers filling the whole height of the door

Else placing them in dark areas (where a skulk might choose to hide?) are good places. Just pray they don't got Advanced Hive Sight.

Really? No matter what, they explode on the ceiling? *honest question, I'd appreciate a reply that didn't start with "You Idiot". ^_^*

Please, put LOTS of mines in your base : ) My team was almost too busy laughing when that happened, to finish the poor marines off

You know what's worse? They CONTINUE placing mines at the same places.
