Commander interface is dark

I have this problem that makes it impossible to play as commander, here's a screenshot of it:

My specs:
Windows Vista 32-bit
4 GB RAM
Quad core 2.3 Ghz
Geforce 9600 GT
Everything else looks normal (crosshairs, RMB menu etc.) except this. It's either VERY dark or completely black.
I tried updating my graphics drivers and directx to the latest version but that made no difference.
I tried re-installing NS but that made no difference.
I tried fullscreen/windowed and different resolutions but that also didn't make any difference.
I tried changing to OpenGL and Direct3D mode, also didn't solve it.
Help would be greatly appreciated!
