Augmented reality feel for marines.

We have to have the marines feel really high tech, so how about go for an augmented reality feel? Play Shattered Horizon for an idea.

What he means is when you look at a marine, you see a little border, or chevrons around him, and then it lists there name + health + ammo + weapon etc... Maybe if they need meds or welding fast, then there health indicators start blinking. This is what the NS1 commander sees in the top down view... but in this case it would be what every marines would see when they look at each other. In fact NS1 had this in a sense because you could see how much welding an object needed by the green progress circles on the floor.

NS1 was really heavily using augmented reality now that i think of it... for example the "move here" "weld this" stuff when the commander gave you orders.

Btw... augmented reality also equals drawing red circles on skulks and ###### that are hiding... think of it as a visual cue to help you kill more efficiently. (Exactly like the motion tracker feature of NS1... BUT instead of SOLELY relying on radar data from an obs... the helmet camera could work stand-alone to identify enemies and weapons that are on the ground etc.

In Dead space your hud would help you get to objectives by painting a line on the floor. So i agree with the Raneman that we need to have an even more evolved presence of augmented reality, exceeding what NS1 offered.

It would be interesting if we could get enhanced info when we are in the presence of a turret factory or obs in the field... maybe it will paint on your hud what it's fireing at somehow.

Shattered Horizon also had a helmet that could turn on/off and bent slightly.

So, if this is the core of your idea, I'm a bit confused.

    1) What would be an advantage to turning off your helmet in NS? I know in Shattered Horizon turning it off makes you go silent, lowering your radar profile and lights making you a stealthy ninja at the cost of auto-correcting boosters and minimal HUD.
    2) Other threads are already talking about damage flicker, which is probably as far as you want to take the damaged HUD idea before going into eye candy that slows main development down. At least that's what I think.

So, not a bad idea, but let's pipe this into the other more fleshed out ideas in other threads. Unless there's some other new aspect you're bringing to the table that I've missed out on due to ignorance.
