Can't connect

Whenever I choose a server from the list to connect to, it gets to the third loading bar and sits there. Windows firewall says its already made an exception to hl.exe so I'm kind of at a loss. I haven't played in awhile and I remember this is the reason why :[

    well, it seems turning off the firewall works... but i'm still confused. there's got to be a way to have both my firewall running and be able to play ns. if it's not hl.exe i need to except, then what?

    Scratch that, I just tried connecting again with my firewall off and it doesn't work. I don't know what happened to make it work the one time. I've tried different servers and even another game browser on the off-chance it'd work. Too bad these forums are mostly dead.

    Might not help but the only two exceptions for the firewall I can think of are:
    ...\Steam\Steam.exe
    ...\half-life\hl.exe
