Using your own avatar-pic in the forums
Hmm... I only can tell you how I did get it to work.

I think I had to have 5 posts to get the 'use your own
pic/avatar' feature unlocked (not sure about that, though).

Uploading the pic to the forum-server didn't work for me
When I tried to upload my picture onto the forum, I always got
some kind of weird error message, wich lead me to the assumption
that it wasn't allowed to do for the average forum user.

How to upload your pic on your own ISP webspace...
The only thing that worked for me was to upload the pic on
my own webspace (most of the ISPs grant you a lil webspace,
like AOL where you can put stuff like that).

Look up on the homepage of your Internet Service Provider
for instructions how to use your personal webspace provided by them.

To upload files on your webspace, you can use a program like WS_FTP Pro.

...and updating your forum-settings with the location of your custom pic
All you have to do then is to enter the exact 'internet addy' of your pic
(f.e. "http://www.home.myisp.com/images/yourpic.jpg")

I'm not really good at explaining those things,
but I still hope you'll get it done somehow.

Just click the browse button beside 'file attachments' right below the smilies when you are typing your post. The images have to be in jpeg, gif, or other stuff. I know bmp doesn't work.
