I'm not even sure we'll be able to connect to game with the alpha...

At this point in time, there is little info about it. Once it becomes more concrete, we will definitely let everyone know!

Awsome, Would be nice to alpha test the playability on both sides with a co-admin to refine server specific custom maps.
We use VPN to test run servers before we go public but we have waited this long so i supose a bit longer won't kill us.
I must say from what i have seen, You guys rock!!

I've only ever seen people using VPN software to evade cdkey checks...

we started using it because of ubisoft's bad connection problems, I supose if they wrote a good network stack we wouldn't have to use VPN but since UBI forced us to use it to even play R6V we decided to use it and did find it for testing servers it offers lower latency.

Beside if your gonna crack a game then why not just run a cracked server?
Many cracked servers ride steams backbone, wonder how that is? just food for thought. anyhow the way that was worded sounded like a indirect stab implying that people who own or run there own server blades and put out thousands of dollors on equipment would result to CD cracking a $40 game. praeposterus, literally!

It's not as common for HL/HL2 based games, as the cracks for them seem to work nicely on the special servers.. It does have the advantage though, if you are using Hamachi or other VPN's, you don't need a legit version of the game (sv_lan 1 servers don't check cd keys).

So, the people who don't have the ability or can't find the online cracks tend to run lan servers. It's not a measure of how much money you have at all. CS1.6 costs $10, and is still pirated very frequently.

Very good point, Thankfully there are still honest people. not many, but a few.

I am however hopeful that some sort of networking is available in the engine test release so i can get a fellow admin onboard to find flaws in my level.

Hope to see some news on dedicated soon so we can see what we can config and what not. In-game voice will be first to go, or at least a function to globaly mute a player perm on any givin server. :P

We will definitely put up as many dedicated servers in Australia as needed when the time comes :)
