Is Dynamic Infestation the literal equivalent of the Power Grid? Or can it spawn anywhere that you build a structure/whatever? Basically does it have to connect?
It's like the counter part but not equivalent. We don't really have all the details so far but the DI, is the mark of Aliens territory which the Marines have to destroy and replace with the PG(ugh!) via an RT. Similarly the PG holds back DI, I think. So aliens have to destroy the RT's in order to spread DI in a grid powered room.
We have as much info about DI as we do about the game at this point: next to none.
From the bits and pieces, I gather... It will spread from the hive into neutral territory, it will always be around alien structures, it'll dim or shut down lights in the area, it'll cover any surface in the way, will be kept at bay by Power Grid, and can be removed by marines directly in some fashion.
Well I already promised I would start with Glowies instead of whatever they wanna call em.
With how big SC and SC2 scene is hopping at the moment ... Wouldn't doubt it. 'Infestation' alone is just too much to say in fast paced combat. They should be renaming it an actual alien name here shortly I would assume ... 'hint hint'
As for how it works... Its a matter of controlling the tech nodes (Hive/build areas) ... and the resource areas. The idea is big... Amazingly big. Its just how much they want to expand it or not. I imagine they will slowly improve on it... Will it start/stop fan ventilation shafts and chop up infestation/aliens? :) Will it kick on furnaces that burn out smoke stacks that hold upper ventilation/inaccessible catwalks?
I wouldn't be surprised if it came from tech points and resource nodes but didn't have to connect up like the powergrid, but with the idea that aliens gain an advantage while on it. Then again, that rewards defensive play which isn't great. I guess if flamethrowers remove it...

Idle speculation at best.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> Yeah, this.
I've been slightly worried about the whole territorial gameplay and it's defensive effect, but it's difficult to say anything concrete without any real knowledge on how it works.

I agree "DI" is even shorter than "Creep" and would be unique to NS2 (save for some WoW references).

"Dee-Eye" is two hard syllables. "Creep" is just one.
The good news is that I haven't pre-ordered, so I won't be trying to force the trend any time soon.
I really hope aliens can just plop down RT's where ever they want much like NS1. I foresee some interesting rushes to key RT rooms to block a powergrid's progression.
Comments
Alien -> needs to seed infestation to grow
in opposition to
Marines -> needs to connect grid to grow
Facts, A hive spawns dynamic infestation. Dynamic infestation can also be used to break doors.
Aside from that, we have no other information at present Mu. Maybe someone from the dev team will punch in with this one.

I'd be surprised if "DI" made it out of Alpha.

Fun stuff :)
