Dealing With Smart Lerks

<div class="IPBDescription">what do *you* do?</div> You know what I mean - a Lerk who stays up in the air, Umbras, has adrenaline, bites when you try to knife, etc. What's a good, easily transferrable (i.e. "able to be told to idiots over voice chat in the game") way to fight against them?

First, even the best lerk play will make a mistake while flying around trying to dodge...this often invovles trying to change flying direction and getting stuck for a second in midair while your change. Marine have to use this instant to take it out.
Second..if he is in an umbra by himself..start spraying and get close, and weld his little punk butt...it does insane damage, and he wont have many bites in him. Or run back and wait for the umbra to run out or for the lerk to move out of it. Agains umbra the shotgun is actully pretty decent, but the GL is best. The HMG is alright also, because the rounds that hit will HURT. But if the lerk is smart like me, I just go on umbra bombing and support my guys, or I umbra and spike it out, or umbra and bite turrets.
Sigh...the spore cloud, I love it and hate it. Its very evil to use and can clear out a room faster than than fat **obscenity**'s farts. At 8hp/second most marines wont last long. You have to have faith that your commander will be dropping Medpacks like a beast, or just run, the cloud does not last that long and if you can bare the damage long enough to kill all the aliens it cost them some RP's.
So, in reveiw
Bite=Use anti skulk tactics, be careful, any weapon is good.
Spike with Flying= use HMG in close quaters or LMG at a distance, a pistol is awesome as well.
Umbra=Anything Heavy damaging at close range, run if its a long range battle, or use GL or even the welder.
Spore Cloud=Pray to god that you have a great commander, or run, or kill all that you can before you die.
Ditch the shottie? I always found that I got swatted out of the air the most by shotguns. Long as it's not a very long range/altitude, hunt a Lerk like you'd hunt a duck on steroids - carefully! Watch for the midair stall when the ceiling suddenly has a beam or corner - then rip a shell up into the air and hopefully bring it down. If it's got Regeneration though, you're in for a fun time.
Double-teaming also works like a charm. Plus if the sucker touches down and Umbras - <b>get right in his face and jump on it</b>. The common Lerk tactic is to Umbra and Spike from within - so he'll have to switch over to Bite - and by then, the anti-script code in NS kills him. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> I had a Marine jump on top of me once and weld me to death in the blink of an eye. Lerks are slow as hell walking, so if you take that flight ability away, they're in trouble.
Or just retreat to one of the many turret farms that should be around and hope their support fire is enough to scare it off.

If you want practice shooting lerks, go play duck hunt.

...that's in full 3D and doesn't let you hold your gun up next to the TV screen.
Personally, I haven't had much trouble with Lerks yet, but I've found shotties work really well because of the spread.
You can't cheat in a game you can't win.
Me: "Remember Duck Hunt? I never beat it before."
Friend: "You can't beat Duck Hunt. It doesn't end!"
Me: "Sure it does, I'll show you."
*8 hours and 459 levels later*
Me: "Damn."
NOTE
I have no idea if that's true.
Anyways, back to <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo--> ing lerks
So, in short, stay cool, keep your gaurd up, and seal off <i>every</i> damn vent you find.
Oh my, I'm not sure I have ever heard so much marine whining. Gas is unfair, flying is unfair, umbra is unfair ... sheesh!

EDIT: Oh yeah, my tips! I would suggest Welder or Pistol, depending on what the lerk is using.
the best thing you can do with turrets is space them in a spread out fashion to cover as many angles as possible in as much of the room as possible. this isn't just an anti-lerk tactic, it's your best bet against sneaky skulks and those fades that like to crouch behind that turret factory as well. if there's always two turrets that can fire on any angle around the buildings you've set down, you're good. but that's usually at least 6 turrets, and so only viable if it's mid-late game and you didn't **obscenity** up on securing resources.
i'd also like to address the duck hunt issue. holding the gun up to the screen is NOT cheating. it makes the game HARDER. the closer you hold a gun to a target, the more actual arm and wrist movement required to track its motion. get to around level 50 and see if your arm can still keep up with those crack-addled fowls.
this goes for ANY light gun game. it cracks me up to see people (usually teenage girls) holding the gun really close to the screen in time crisis II or site b or whatever in an arcade. if you hold the gun as far back as they recommend, you'll only need to twitch your wrist to move your aim all the way across the screen.
