Player controlled buildbot?

<div class="IPBDescription">fun?</div>A player could take control of it at will, or let the A.I. (or comm) resume its work when they left. Would be a fun job for new players, or the those who want to take a break for a while (to eat some chicken wings).

Regardless if its official or a mod, it'll probably get in the game eventually.

    I'm going to call him Wall-e in game. You think that will catch on?

    EDIT: Would make a lot of sense if the com could take over Wall-e (both from a gameplay point of view AND a lore POV). Not so much the Marines.

    Gameplaywise the com takign over Wall-e is a choice between good global awareness and support versus a more direct focused support. In that case taking over direct control should allow the Weld-bot to have extra abilities or just plain be more efficient.

    This kind of confuses me. If you're taking a break you can't control the bot since you know, you're not there. Having new players out shooting things is more useful than doing what the AI already does. I doubt a new player would even assume they could take over a build bot. Letting players steal the commander's bots is a horrible idea. Want that RT built? Better hope someone doesn't take your bot and use it somewhere else, or if they feel like being an ass they could just take it to cause the Marines to lose.

    It would be interesting if the bots had an auto mode, but also a manual override. For example maybe you want to stealthily pilot the robot throughout the map to weld in secret... The A.I. would not be able to do this... it'll have a hard enough time navigating.

    OMFG!!!! NINJA BOTS!!! THE COM DROPS A PG AND YOU HAVE TO SEND DA BOT OUT SECRETELY TO BUILD THE GATE!!!!!!

    See it'd be fun :P An entire team of bots sent on one mission... to build the relocated base in the vent... GET THE IP UP!!!!!!111 xD

    I was going to say... maybe the com can send the bots to a siege point, and drop some sieges for building... BUT our siege cannon drives around in NS2 so that whole process wouldn't even be necessary lol.

    Weldbots = SCVs(Starcraft), and only the Commander(s) should control them.

    @FocusedWolf

    -----> MARINE POWER GRID <-----

    *****

    Pretty much covers it.

    At least NS2 will have some decent Micro now, and not the, waitin' on Upgrades Monkey in the Chair... like in NS1(Macro Slave).

    Yeah...

    Well the comm could make WALL-E locked so players couldn't hop in, leaving only the AI to control itself or manual comm control. You could eat chicken wings while building base with your WALL-E. I think that name might stick :X

    No....

    No reason. If you're "on break" leave. If you're not on leave.... there's no reason to be the weldbot. Otherwise, let AI/Comm control these things.

    If you are AFK, stop feeding the Spawn Killing Skulk Income and go Spectator.

    Yeah. =)

    the hyphen, and the double L, in "wall-e" is somewhat obstructive, so I don't think it will catch on
