<div class="IPBDescription">still implemented ?</div>There was a video podcast on the ns2 site i can remember, where you could see an old command console and volumetric lights falling through a shutter.
I just wanted to know if someone could tell me if its still part of the engine and will be in NS2 ?
regards

I'm actually curious about the volumetric lights thing. teach me! ;)
Yeah, it really is a great effect - plus, with some of the things we're planning for the maps, atmospheric lights will really make a difference.
For those of you wondering what we're talking about, here's an early test shot that includes volumetric light effects:

Volumetric lights and dynamic lights are not necessarily the same. A light could be one, the other, both or even none of the above.
Dynamic lights will light and cast shadows on and around objects that come nearby.
Volumetric lights are lights that appear to pass through smoke, dust, fog... Think of very bright sun rays finding their way in a dusty dark room or the beam of a flashlight in the fog.
I might be wrong on those, but am pretty sure this is it.
Edit in: there are also 'static lights' which don't affect moving objects (characters, weapons, moving props) but are usually rendered in place.

Sir, can I ask you for a higher resolution of that screenshot (1680x1050 :3), pretty please?

Thanks! So the volumetric lights are the one that shows beams in mid air? That makes sense, being as the beams show volume. Whereas just casting a dynamics shadow on a wall has nothing to do with volumes.
Now I remember that the light beams one could see in the videocast are not present in the map editor (or game either it seems).
FWAVLBI, actually. Pay attention!
=)
Oh my...
