Since you are using Steam. I hope you will make Steam Achievements and use Steam Cloud and Leaderboards for NS2. I know this is to early to speak but these things really awesome for Steam games. :)

No, you can see them from your Steam Profile too. Leaderboards to see Kill Death Ratio, Frags, etc...

Stats like that dosnt realy encurage teamplay in a RTS/FPS, bad idea if you ask me...
QUOTE (acare84 @ May 16 2010, 03:52 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

No, you can see them from your Steam Profile too. Hidden stats for game design (i.e. devs/mappers only see) and matchmaking are OK. I <3 death heatmaps when looking at map design.
Global leader boards.... not really a fan. It tends to only lead to playing just for stats, not really to always win/teach others/etc.
Achievements? Ugh. I understand they often work in terms of getting people to play more/learning/do different roles, but sometimes they really get in the way of things.
Global Leaderboards would be alright, but again, needs to be implemented for NS gameplay. That includes Gorge boards, Lerk boards, etc, so you'd have different stats to the standard "kill per life" ones.
Achievements, same as boards. Handy if it doesnt get in the way of gameplay.
Cloud idea is ok but I'm COMPLETELY against leaderboards, stats or achievements. Many tend to get obsessed with these. And those get obsessed mostly ruin their teammates' game.

Which is based on what? Actual experience, or just what you think will happen?
As per the achievements thread, I just don't buy this exaggerated notion of achievements ruining games that seems to be banded about by people who just don't like achievements themselves. I don't like or care for achievements, but I've played plenty of games that have them, and never participated in a game that has been ruined because players have gone for achievements.

Heroes of Newerth. People playing for K:D instead of winning.
Call of Duty 4 and Modern Warfare 2, people playing for K:D and achievements and not necessarily winning. Heck, I've seen people try to coordinate and feed a buddy kills so they get the uber kill streak stuff.
L4D I've had groups where making an achievement run ruined the fun and it became not play the game but get achievements.
TF2 achievement servers. Enough said. Normal games though tend to not be overly achievement crazy.
Then again, perhaps "ruined" is not the right word. More like "why the heck do you care about getting that achievement? We're losing here! Help team!" annoyances.

I disagree that "this is all". Has spellman been keeping count of the wrecked games due to achievements? And how does he even know people are going for them when things like K:D ratio are pretty much what most online players go for regardless of achievements? I severely doubt that the frequency of "achievement hunters" ruining games is anything like as bad as what spellman has implied there. I play roughly 30-40 hours per 2 weeks of TF2 and L4D1/2, have done since release for both games, and simply cannot remember games being ruined by achievement hunters.
Essentially, this is one person's opinion based on uncertifiable recollections of achievement hunters supposedly wrecking games. So again, it's highly debateable, although given your rants in previous achievement threads its not suprising to see you quote this and claim it is the be-all and end-all of achievement debates.
