Animated particles?
This is as much a question as it is a suggestion if it isn't implemented or planned.
I haven't really tried it out but does the current particle system support for animated particles/sprites. And I don't mean the particle stream itself but each individual particle being an animated clip. Say if you want to make an explosion were each particle starts out as a fireball and then the particle goes through it's timeline until it morphs into a charcoal black cloud of smoke.
So in short the particle over it's life time goes from fire to smoke in a preanimated movie clip or image sequence rendered onto the particle. like in this link: http://www.polybeast.de/portfolio/_Explosions.htm
