after ns2 becomes a critically acclaimed success.....
(I know its early days yet, but i 'm procrastinating :P)
So what do you guys think UWE will create after NS2 is finished, patched, polished and has a free expansion or 2 ?
What would you guys want? NS3 (NS 3D?) Something different? and Why?
I think that UWE will create something completely different, and if the ns2 is a succcess I can see a few gorge racing mini titles on consoles :P Seriously though it wouldn't suprise me if they decided to make a fast paced stealth game where you play as a humanoid cat which can sprint on walls and ninja people up.
But what I would really like is :
A 1st person 4 player co-op physics heavy puzzle adventure survival game set in the ns2 universe. Think system shock 2, trine, garry's mod, prenumbra, pandorum.
Players spawn in a giant derelict space station (more or less randomly generated), search for items (also random) which will help them pass across obstacles and kill enemies.
I'd like it to have a dark and desperate atmosphere, where most of the weapons are makeshift, or have hardly any ammo. The alien encounters would be few, but would be signifant battles, where the 4 players will have to choose how to handle the situation depending on which items they have and what their surroundings are like - do they try to all beat the skulks with pipes, wrenches and risk wasting all of the med packs? or do they lure the skulk into a falling into a lava filled chasm? do they set up a trap with the metal cable they've weld to cieling, to tangle the skulks up so they can run past it. Will they need the metal cable to climb down an elevator shaft later on, or do they hope that they will find a jet pack and a hacking device to fix the stuck elevator? or from the ammo they saved on beating the skulk to death can they shoot out the saftey equipment on the elevator to make it fall to medium height, allowing them to continue down that passage. OR! do they have to turn back and try a different corridor? Perhaps they've found a PDA which tells them shortest way to exit - but is the shortest path going to be the most dangerous and item wasting?
Perhaps there could even be a light upgrade system with consistant stats (maybe you can keep a few items from the previous adventure), or you get different outfits, or buffs etc.
Why?
The reason I'd like a game like this is because (obviously being a forum member here lol) i'm into sci-fi, but since i'm started playing NS1 in my early 20's you can understand that i'm getting near the big THREE ZERO, and action games don't give me much of a thrill these days. I'm into strategy, tactics and team work when it comes to games - when a planned tactic works out in a game, to me its like when an orchestra players perfectly :)
I still love to shoot things up - but to me it needs to have purpose, and it needs to have atmosphere and immersion. (which is easy to do when you aren't making a competetive multiplayer game).
I also like the replayability of randomly generated maps which could have quick load segements, so that each part of the level can be extremely detailed, yet the map would seem to go forever, almost like maze.
So what do you guys think UWE will create next? :)

But lets see what the modders come up whit first :)
What fan wouldn't want a new NS game every year?

So, you want "NS 2014" to have...
- no servers (P2P!)
- less features (streamlined!)
- 2 maps upon release (but you can buy DLCs!)
oh, and the community is going to call it "natural lagfest"
Great! I love EA, best company in the world. ;)
Let's rather hope Valve buys them and releases NS3 in 2020 ;)
Skip to Natural Selection 2: Episode 3 right away and then they'll get all the time they would ever need.
If nintendo buys uwe:
Mario gorge - you controll a gorge which slides around collecting powerups while racing for the goal (bet something similar this will be player made pretty soon after gorge is released).
Link will have to fight skulks, onos and such, not to mention transforming into a fade. Can eat stuff and he will controll lerks.
In super smash you can unlock fade - who rides an onos, marine who has a jetpack and with a powerup becmes heavy marine, aswell as skulk who can easily change between skulk/lerk/gorge.
I actually would like some of those stuff :P (like the mario gorge).
If serious, I would say that I like them to make a game-engine which is very awesome, coded in hardware for performance (joke :P), with all the awesome stuff people always wanted, and capable of alot of other stuff. Maybe even decent graphic (if anyone care about that).
To earn some extra money they could also do the same but specialised to ONLY handle the hardest stuff, such as dynamic worlds (simulating atmos, maybe even smaller particles), withing decent time frames (epic fx for movies, such as "real" water, fire, explosions, singularities, shockwaves, teleporting ("BOOM") and even time dilation (heh). Obviously it would use quantum bits to work, as it would simulate the quantum mechanics aswell (so every time you watch a movie it might be different) ;).
I doubt that it will ever be done though, by anyone. But that is actually what I want.
I'd like to see the RTS side highlighted more. Basically, NS meets warcraft 3 where the players are the "heroes" who command the armies the commander builds. Or else a *true* RTS/FPS hybrid. Yes NS is a FPS/RTS hybrid, but i'm talking about an regular RTS like we've grown accustomed to, but one where you can take over each unit yourself. Basically an RTS which, when you most need it, turns into an FPS. This would've been hard on old technology but considering the huge, beautifull enviroments these days and countless enemies on screen... i think it can be done.
Speaking of RTS games, NS2 needs a Command and Conquer mod. I've had months of fun with red alert 2 online and i still remember renegade with a fondness. I'd propose combining the 2: an NS2 red alert 2 mod. I'd model stuff for that :p
First Person Chrono Crazy Ivan. nuff said.
you mean like a dungeon keeper style tower defense kind of game ? http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/forums/in...p;#entry1775534 (shameless plug)
heh naw i figured there'd be a tower defence mod :p but that's not what i mean, and i don't mean that DotA game heroes of newerth either.
I mean a full fledged RTS game. Lets face it, after the last command and conquer traditional RTS games have all but died out. The new starcraft is filled to the brim with unit abilities and micro's, that's not how i remember the old command and conquer games. I remember tons of units, each doing there own thing and the differnt tactics the *player* came up with. A fleet of buggies with a couple of AT infantry was just as viable as a couple of mammoth tanks, if you played your cards right.
RA2 had immense variety and what you could do with it. From taking a whole base out with tanya to chrono legionaires to the good ol' gazillion tank rush. Not using this units micro against that units micro. the only micro's i wanna use is ctrl+1 to group a couple of units and 1 to select those units.
Of course this is a multiplayer game, so the edition of wow-type hero units, called officers get added in. In essence all ya need to do is call em officers, use the ranking system already in RA2 only instead from rank 1-3 have them go from 3-6.
You'd make the game more about the commanders, sure. But considering what a small pack of well placed soldiers could do in RA2, having 15 or even 7 live players run around per side will make a big impact.
And i'll never forgive EA for killing westwood. i wanna see a decent next gen CnC game damnit ><
You know it to be true!
I fear its too late, CnC has already reached the level shovelware in my mind :(
I hope they can make enough off of NS to fund another game without selling to a bigger company. I also don't think expansions should be free, provided they are more than just glorified patches. But say they introduce 5 new UWE maps a few new techs for one team and a new alien type, It'd be fair to ask 10-20$ for that.
I know they are a small team not like Blizzard or Valve or how ever they are called, but some small little patches for game balance etc. for the next couple of years I wanna, just not to have the feeling I am playing a dead game otherwise I will be really dissapointed in indie games.
PS: I think they will work on an expansion!! If they do hopefully Blizz like expansion when u know wat i mean ;D
I'd say they could do something like Battlezone II with new graphics. It was a FPSRTS and great game back then. They have knowledge how to do a good FPS/RTS so I'm pretty sure they could do a very interesting tank-based FPS/RTS.

You're all wrong.
"Natural Selection 3: Return of the Cat-bus" You have to build a threepeat.
But they will be working on NS2 long after the release to polish things, add maps and game modes among other things...
Natural Selection 3: Engine improved to handle big outdoor environments with life size buildings, air&ground vehicles (and bigger alien lifeforms), more players, and many kharaa a.i. units. to have a more epic feel and more RTS heavy approach.
NS2 is still going to have skirmish feel to it so the next natural step is to go for the war.

Just wanted to point out that Blizzard and Valve are the big companies that support all of their titles the best man :P
if you wanna point fingers at developers that DO NOT support their games after launch, point at Ubisoft, they are the worst company at fixing obvious glitches and bugs.
I can udnerstand if they are eager to start on a new game and dosent add new content or what not, but atleast fix bugs and glitches!!!
