twitter discussion thread

<div class="IPBDescription">weekly</div>Could there be a new twitter discussion thread created periodically on the forum -- perhaps once every week?

The current one is too huge to traverse, and contains information (in the earlier pages) that is no longer relevant. If it was split up into weekly threads, it would keep up-to-date information at the top of the forum, while older discussions would eventually fall off the front page. People could continue to discuss in the old threads, but only on topics related to the tweets made that week.

    That is actually a really good idea.

    I like the current big discussion thread. Its got a nice epic feeling and keeps all the twitter discussion in one place instead of spread out across many threads. It's also the hangout for all the cool kids on Fridays.

    It's a little silly I suppose to keep masses of discussion nobody is likely to read, although I don't really have an issue with the current thread.

    It might be an ok idea but there is no real reason to now do this its not like we need to discuss old tweets anyway. The end of the thread is always the discussion of the newest topics so I never really felt compelled to go back and read the whole thing as most of it would just be old info. Worst case you want to bring up an older topic just mention it in the thread I'm sure people will reply. Just feel like since its been all in 1 thread for so long it will get confusing with many threads and what is to stop people from posting in last weeks thread anyway? It will just cause clutter really.

    The relevant information is always at the end of the thread, no need to start at the first post.
    And it's not meant for extensive discussions, just quick comments.
    I say keep it. :)

    AUSns2 has a good list of all the relevant info from the twitter posts. Don't forget the CSI level of detail on some:

    I have two problems with the current single epic thread system.

    1)<!--quoteo(post=1776064:date=Jun 24 2010, 05:29 PM:name=aeroripper)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (aeroripper @ Jun 24 2010, 05:29 PM) <a href="index.php?act=findpost&pid=1776064"><{POST_SNAPBACK}></a></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->...keeps all the twitter discussion in one place...<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    2) On the GOOD tweets I never know how many pages to backtrack. It's a mess.

    3) When there are several tweets close to one another the discussion will get mixed.

    What I would like to see is that when a topic is deemed discuss worthy and new thread is started with a proper title, but quickly. I don't like it whenever a good tweet is already about 3 or 4 pages of discussion and one has to sort of go in reverse to figure out the big mess.

    Meanwhile when I start a properly titled topic we sometimes can have a focused discussion on that topic. But if I'm to late for the party then the discussion get broken up and stuff. What if we have a few good tweets in one day but I only want to see what the community has to say on one topic. How can I properly find the replies to a specific tweet if someone doesn't make a thread for it EARLY ON.

    tl:dr = If you see a thread worthy tweet make a topic for it quickly to that a discussion on it can be properly channeled.

    Everyone is welcome to create separate threads for more focused discussions on tweet topics already, as this has been done in the past with more popular tweets. Some weeks there really isn't even tweets to discuss at all so all twitter discussion will probably disappear after an inactive week or two. With the big thread people can still read and catch up with the more recent tweets, even if there hasn't been many.

    The big blog\friday updates already get their own thread for discussion anyway, which usually see much of the weekly discussion alone. Maybe once the alpha is released we could create a new one with all the post-alpha\beta\release tweets to separate it from the pre-release info? I dunno. Regardless, all hail the tweet discussion thread! If you guys still want it split up, you should PM Comprox and see if he wants to split it up, since I don't feel comfortable getting rid of 2 years of NS history myself :)
