Alien Resources

I've heard it said that "less gorges == more resources per gorge" is a myth. I think it is true, sorta. The way I think it works is that the gorges gain resources just as fast as anyone else, BUT they will gain any resources from people who are maxed out in resources. So if you only have 1 hive, and the skulks start maxing out at 33, the gorges are going to get all the resources the skulks/lurks aren't getting. Now assuming this logic is correct, there is one thing that should be true: it doesn't make sense for ANYONE to go gorge until you hit 33. While people are gaining resources you can be attacking with the rest of the skulks. The second realization from this is that going lerk when you have 1 hive makes no sense at all. It will take resources away that the gorges could be using to build a hive or resource towers. The lerk is only useful when it has umbra, and if the player doesn't use umbra to support team mates then a lerk isn't useful until hive 3 when it can get spores.

Now, that said, there are two stratagies you might try once everyone hits 33. The first would be to have several people go gorge as soon as they hit 33, all of them build a resource tower, and all of them but 1 change back to skulk. The second would be to have only 1 go gorge and start making resource towers. Now, I am not positive which would be better, but here is some math. With the first idea you would gain resources faster, but you are wasting a LOT of resources by having several people go gorge, then change back to skulk and protect any resource towers that get attacked. Now that is 17 resources wasted for every person who does that. The question is, does having that many resource towers up front outweigh wasting 17*(number of people who double evolved) ? If you get 2 resources every 5 seconds for every resource tower, and you had 5 resources towers made with the first method, then that would be 4 * 17 = 68 resources wasted, which means it would only take 28.333 seconds to regain the resources lost, which would mean the first method is much better. (Because you have 6 resources towers (1 at start, plus 5 built, and 68 resources lost, so (68 points lost/ (6 resource towers *2 points)) * 5 seconds = 28.3333 seconds). So with the first method in 28.333 seconds you would have 1 gorge getting the excess resources of 6 resource towers, or 12 points per "tick" which is 5 seconds I think. That means he would have enough for the second hive in 33.333 seconds. That means that from the point everyone maxes out at 33, you could have a 2nd hive in about one minute, factoring in the time it makes to build a resource tower. He would have enough for the third hive in another 33 seconds. This seems to be AWFUL fast. I'd try it out but no one ever cooperates in pubs :/

Oh and also, if it IS true that gorges gain resources faster than team mates, how is this possible? It would totally unbalance the game. Does this mean that if everyone goes gorge the team will get twice or three times the resources it would normally get?

No. The gorge get more, the team get less. Too much gorges = few $ per gorge.

OK I read that gorges get resource 30% faster than other team mates, in other words they get priority. So wouldn't that make my strat EVEN better? Just modify it back to having 1 person go gorge at beginning. It means there is NO penalty for having a bunch of people switching to gorge and then switching back, assuming the 1 gorge hasn't already had time to build on all the resource nozzles available, which I doubt.

However, if my theory of what happens to excess resources is not true, then what DOES happen to excess resources if the gorges don't get them?

Just a quick summary of the RP for aliens. All the RP go to the hive, where it is then distributed among the team. Gorges get 3x as much as anyone else, but this does not mean that if each person was a skulk and would each receive 1 rp, that each person would then in turn receive 3 rp if they were gorges. Hopefully I didn't describe it too vaguely.

If those who are maxed out of their rp capacity, they are left out of the equation and their teammates receive their rp. So yes, if everyone was maxed out in rp except for a single gorge, the gorge would receive a lot of rp very quickly. If everyone was maxed out on rp, it goes into a reserve it is needed. This should be about right for the rp's for aliens. Correct me if I'm wrong.
