They are not going to make an NS1 version for the first release, nor should we want them too. It is just going to take more time. When the game comes out I am sure there will be many eager modders ready to make a "Natural Selection Classic" but until then we should embrace the new direction the game is taking and try to provide constructive feedback.
I understand that many people adore Natural Selection, but try to remember that Natural Selection was not a perfect game (especially not the first version of it). We are getting to the point of nostalgia, remember that NS1 went through many changes, each change bringing with it complaints and compliments in equal measure. Natural Selection 2 is a different game, but I think it is unfair to constantly compare it to Natural Selection and complain it is being 'dumbed down'. From what I have seen in the Alpha, this game surpasses most other popular games in the same genre when it comes to diverse roles, teamplay and complexity.
Also remember that we have only seen the Alpha, a very limited one at that. It lacks the many mechanics that the developers have designed to create the desired gameplay, such as Dynamic Infestation.
I also think that despite all this complain of change, NS2 has remained very true to the original. We all knew what to do when we jumped in that commander station for the first time, and understood how to play marines and aliens to their different advantages.
So lets try to think of some more constructive criticism to these changes, rather than having the knee-jerk response and demand everyting be put back the way it was. Try to remember that the people making this game have their own ideas, they don't want to make the game they already made, they want a different game. Remember that the guys making NS2 are the same guys that made NS1, they know how this game works better than any of us, despite what we may think. The most important thing is to feel positive about the game, if you keep grumbling about how you think its ruined, you are never going to enjoy Natural Selection 2. By all means criticise the game, but I think it is a bit insulting to the developers to just ask everything be put back the way it was.
If anyone wants to play NS1, they should play NS1. NS2 is NS2.
What is the point, honestly, of making a sequal thats identical to the prequal? The whole point is progression. Things change. If people dont like them, they can either go back to the first game, or stop playing. Either way, its no loss to the wider community because make no mistake, those who want NS2 to be identical to NS1 are the minority.
