Yet another marine building thread

<div class="IPBDescription">compromise, it's possible</div>Seems like people either don't want the option of marines building, or do want it, and neither side wants to compromise.
Why can't we have it both ways?
My proposal is to add a tech upgrade to allow marines deploy mini-MACs. Not quite a welder, the mini-MAC would be functionally similar to a big MAC (sorry, couldn't resist) but would be limited to tier 1 tech (infantry portal, armory, turret facs, rt's, turrets). In turn, it would disable the marine's primary weapon (or possibly suffer from armor reduction) while in use (it draws its power from the marine's suit). It would also build at half speed compared to big MACs.
Simply press a key to release the mini-mac to float around and build/repair any structure in the area, then press the key again to recall it.
PROs:
* A marine could carry around a mini-mac and be similar to a ninja/rambo forward base marine in NS1.
* Marines would not have to look at a structure and press 'e' in order to help build a base
* Marines, while able to move and evade, as well as defend and return fire, would be much more vulnerable while employing the mini-MAC. This would create a similar tension to in NS1, while eliminating the "boring" aspect of base building.
* Marines would not be totally useless if all big MACs died en route to a forward base. A barebones defense could be constructed and defended while waiting for reinforcements to arrive.
* It makes more strategies available to the comm, more tech to choose from - do you go for that 3rd RT, or do you invest in marine macs for a sneaky forward base?
* It eliminates the physical believability problems of marines carrying the big MACs around (seriously those things have to weigh several hundred lbs), as well as the griefing possibilities inherent in such.
* It allows for the comms to have more interaction with his team, and vice versa. Comms are encouraged to check if that lone marine can deploy a mini-MAC, promoting commanders to keep track of the entire team rather than just doing his own thing, while marines are encouraged to check what the comm's strategic goals are.
* New players/players with poor shooting skills are still rewarded for helping their team, and feel a sense of accomplishment, while still being able to contribute to base defense.
* mini-MACs aren't overpowered, since they take double the time to build things, and can only build basic structures. One rambo marine will not be enough to secure a critical forward base; the whole team will still have to come with support and MACs in order to fortify it.
* no new artwork resources needed - just scale down the existing MAC model
* no 'ehhh' game mechanics - welding beetch comes to mind.
CONs:
* Makes balancing for competitive matches harder.
* Diverts commander resources and player resources for a redundant role (?)
* idk, think of something?
thoughts?

I'm not sure about others but personally my main problem with the current system is that it's relying entirely on AI. Your suggestion doesn't resolve that.
