As posted per <a href="http://getsatisfaction.com/unknownworlds/topics/hydraability_placementdistance_change_idea" target="_blank">http://getsatisfaction.com/unknownworlds/t...nce_change_idea</a> (I don't know if devs read getsatisfaction for ideas, i have posted numerous of <a href="http://getsatisfaction.com/people/joshualuitjens" target="_blank">them</a>)

In HydraAbility.lua on line:25 HydraAbility.kPlacementDistance = 1.1 the value for the distance placement needs to be set higher for ease of placement on walls and just general ground placement. Value-distance of 1.8 doesn't seem far of a change but probably needs to be adjusted accordingly for gameplay. See images below for 1.8

The animation for gorge is just him throwing up, so projectile vomiting anyone?

Also, why does the HydraAbility secondary attack make the hydra ghost disappear for placement? This could confuse players.. I know it comes back upon left click, but still. Is there a mechanic behind this?

If anything, the hydraability should be shaded blue for placement and if you can't place it upon the wall because the height is too high the ghost should be red (this is for walls only, ground doesn't have this problem)

Lastly, hydra models need to be larger and possibly a few different variations with varying tentacle size/numbers

Oh and just on the side of spitting and vomiting hydras, this is spitting at distance of 10.0, I highly doubt it being implemented or maybe even slightly suggested lol :P

how about the distance was short as it is now, then through a hive upgrade (relatively cheap) the distance became very large through some sort of spit-launcher thing. this would allow gorges to be more functional late game through hiding the hydras on the ceiling and deploying them from far away, without allowing it early game when it could be overpowered.

Haha. I like that idea as well. Maybe the primary stays similar to how it is now but the upgrade allows for a secondary fire. The secondary fire would just shoot a hydra cannonball style with an arched firing path over some distance.

That vaguely reminds me of the "bile-bomb" from the original Natural Selection. It did not hurt Marines, but it devastated Marine structures. It fired short distances like a heavy cannonball and was available as the second tier/hive ability of Gorges.

Yeah, I would imagine the mechanic could work the exactly same way except to throw a hydra over a distance.

You're absolutely right. I modified the idea to indicate that we could use it as a secondary fire and in doing so convinced myself that it was my idea originally. I'm a dummy. Sorry about that.
